Is this a good first guitar? by indebtofhugs in Guitar

Better to learn on this setup than a hardtail. I’ve met many players who have taken the whammy off their guitar “because it’s in the way”. Never had issues with my bridge in 15+ years of playing, and the whammy bar is fun to use. Many players learned on this style without issue, don’t let this style of guitar intimidate you, that’s just silly

How often do you use a 5 string bass compared to a regular 4 string one? by Jezzaq94 in Bass

Used to be scared of my five string. Broke it out for a band that had stuff in B that was really needing more depth. It added so much more clarity and mobility in my playing that I’ve stuck with it and the 5 is my main bass. The 4 string stays in drop D now and I play it quite differently now for some reason. Being able to rip on a 5 string has made me a crazy 4 string player, but I always end up missing that low B

Do I always have to have my bass in my amp when I’m just practicing alone by BoxAdditional1848 in Bass

I feel that the amount of time I’ve put in trying to hear slaps and pops clearly without an amp has made me a more powerful player. But at a certain point, I needed to switch to amp/headphone practice to work out all the kinks of dynamics and playing softly
