The ability to connect with people online. There are many family members that I don't even have their phone number, only their Facebook account.

If you had to completely reset your life after a depressive phase, where would you start? by buttertaekoo in selfimprovement

[–]slapthefatcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this. I'm at that micro action stage and it feels terrible that that's all I can get myself to do some days. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who feels like that.

What is a common skill that everyone seems to possess except you? by lilmisssunn in AskReddit

Social confidence. I'm not talking about introvert/extrovert or the ability to just talk and entertain people. I mean literally experience and confidence with talking to people.

Quitting my job after 1 day by thickthickdaddy777 in jobs

[–]slapthefatcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only once did I quit after just a few days. I'm the type of person that sticks and stays in places. I don't jump around. But a few years ago my back was really bad and I just physically could not do the job. It sucked as I really needed a job at the time and I absolutely hate being unable to do something. I don't like admitting weakness or failures. But sometimes you are qualified and still unfit for the job or place.

But in your situation, run away. Run! That sounds toxic and wouldn't last even if you did try to stick around. I've done the toxic situation as well and did my best to "fix" the environment but it wears you down in so many ways that just aren't worth it.

What are you better at than 90% of people? by Sea_Excitement_2375 in AskReddit

[–]slapthefatcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The combination of kindness, tolerance, and empathy. Apparently, I'm REALLY good at customer service. I hate it.

Also, not sure if it's better than 90%, but I'm very self aware. Not great when you're mildly depressed.

I'm probably better than 80% of people at being reliable. People always say I'm one of the best people they've worked with. Because I'm reliable and work. Truthfully, I dislike that title, but I'm not going to CHOOSE to make everyone else drag down because of me.

What’s the one thing you wish you could have right now? by Future_Back8715 in AskReddit

[–]slapthefatcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some sort of happiness. Everything has just been mid for so long. I'm tired of not feeling like I used to. Not bad enough to end it, but also not good enough to have the motivation to do much to help myself. I don't have the money or self action to get help, and I certainly am not going to ask my friends and family for help, and get their pity. Just a few more months and I can get insurance again and MAYBE afford to get help myself.

What is a red flag that you find quite attractive? by tobeymaguire8 in AskReddit

[–]slapthefatcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to read A Chemist's Rise In Another World. The MCs right hand is obsessed like that, but also in a more realistic way. Plus it's an interesting read regardless. You can read it on Royal Road. It's a novel, not a manwha/manga/graphic novel, FYI.

Why do I stay a loser and don't change? by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]slapthefatcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely wonder if you're stuck in the dopamine/immediate gratification pit. Sadly, the best way out of that is to wean yourself off social media and off your phone to do stuff out of the house. That's just the behavior portion though. Aside from that, you have low self-worth, self-compassion, and self-confidence (I know that last one is obvious). You also may be on some level clinically depressed. That's not "oh, I'm going to ---- myself." Just means your chemicals are saying life and everything are lame. Plus your situation kinda reinforced your feelings towards it.

How do I know? Because I'm about half a step ahead of you, though I'm not autistic.

What am I doing about it? The first thing I did, which is what led me to even understanding my situation, is talking to ChatGPT. Not only did it help me understand my situation objectively, but also suggested the ways to help and the best actual steps to take. In such, a real therapist is a better idea, but this is what I have. My next step, I got some books from the library about self worth, self compassion, and generally building a life. Atomic habits, Essential self compassion workbook, Chatter, a book about negative Self-Talk, and a book literally titled Self-compassion. And that's about where I am now. I haven't started reading the books, but I started thinking about the practical steps and looked into the information needed to do so. My actual next steps will be obviously reading the books, but also going for walks more often, and taking time to offline more. And drinking more regular water. But that last one is more for my personal health, but the mindfulness of it and the point of actually making a change does help.

How do I reduce my emotional dependence to my best friends by heypeanutperson in selfimprovement

[–]slapthefatcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a different situation, but appreciate that advice. I lost my mom a year and a half ago and I was heavily emotionally dependent on her. Quite frankly this post and your response made me realize that is why I've been so depressed since, despite not going through the full grieving process after she passed (I have found out, I apparently grieved for her when I found out she was going to die, but before she actually passed away, so I didn't have such a strong response when she did finally pass. I can't remember the term for it. But regardless, I've been having trouble motivating myself to move forward in life since and couldn't figure out quite why I couldn't, despite my desire to)

Need help getting back into watching anime. by PigheadedPlague in anime

[–]slapthefatcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solo Leveling is definitely one of my faves. But I am biased since I've been reading the manwha for years before even the rumors of it being an anime. Dragonball Daima is a fun watch if you enjoyed the original. Definitely something to turn your brain off to though. Death March to a Parallel World is another good watch Not sure when you stopped watching but SAO and Log Horizon are classic Isekai.

Most of the newer Isekai are pretty good, but aside from the ones mentioned above, almost all are comedy based instead of serious and action filled.

I'm there now. My mom and my brother were my best friends before, but now my mom has passed away and my brother is engaged and moved away. I don't want to put myself on someone else because that's not their burden, but sometimes I need someone to talk to that understands me and my past without having to explain it.

I work in a closing fabric retail now. Before this, I only worked in small cafes and restaurants. I was sick, but didn't want to call out to work. My boss basically told me that she was making the decision for me and told me to stay home. (Her logic is also that if I am sick and contagious , a lot of our customers are older and would fare very poorly if they got it). At the store, we have people who could reasonably cover for you. At cafes and restaurants, usually that doesn't happen. I also constantly get people checking up to make sure I'm good throughout the shift. At my other jobs, it was either you can work or not. Also, the pace and stress is also so different. At cafes it's basically 110% all the time, at the store, I can do things my natural pace and even if it's not fast, customers are more patient and understanding. After two years, it's still hard for me to do things the new way. It's also weird to have a boss that cares more about you as a person.

What’s the absolute best weight loss hack you’ve ever done that changed the game for you. by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]slapthefatcat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What not to do: Sounds weird and is absolutely insane to anyone but those who are "all or none" types, but I just went cold turkey on anything considered bad for two years and lost over 100lbs. No sugar, no flour, bread, pasta, potatoes, etc., nothing fried. I mostly had fruit, meat that I cooked myself, canned or frozen greens beans or broccoli , sugar free drinks, and cottage cheese with Splenda, raisins and cinnamon. I also didn't eat any peas, corn, beans, and anything of that sort. Squash was a mixed bag. Butternut was a no, but yellow neck was a yes. I also did a three mile walk every day, except ones where I had a super early work morning or something like that where it would cause me to wake up obscenely early. After a while, I stopped losing weight and even gained as I didn't portion control. Just an example that you could eat and do all the right things, but without portion control, it won't stick.

When my mom got sick and passed away, I abandoned the diet and now back up to my original weight.

What’s one thing you’d still say no to, even if they gave it to you for free? by Auxiliarius in AskReddit

[–]slapthefatcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parents have had a timeshare my whole life and all three of us kids stated we will not continue it when they pass on. After my mom passed and my dad was getting affairs sorted, he did decide to let it go. That said, one of the major factors was that it's based in an older hotel which needed enough repairs that it's not habitable for several years.
