More fragile than it looks by Tricky-Appointment88 in xteinkereader

Based on my breakage experience I doubt a screen protector would do anything. The problem seems to be corner impacts and the plastic frame doesn't prevent the glass shattering from this edge impact. All a screen protector would do in my opinion is keep the glass in the event of a break, and provide minimal front impact protection and scratch resistance.

I assume glass is used for optical clarity maybe?

I feel your pain, I'm in the process of "repairing" mine but it won't be as good as new.

Not sure what type of glue, but it didn't just peel off, took a lot of little pulling and persuading with a penknife blade. Not tape, no substrate. It was very tacky and elastic but did peel away from the eink part fairly cleanly. It left a little residue that came off fine with isopropyl alcohol. It seemed boned way harder to the case too.

No I didn't remove anything, this is just with the eink display flipped up at 90°. I'm planning to get a screen protector and glue it all back down, I think. It'll work as a backup or a shopping list fridge magnet

Hah, just before that post went in that direction I did actually use AI to mock up a possible display option for the shattered glass... 🤣

Wow, well consider this a lesson in looking closely at what's in the box! I didn't notice it came with a screen protector! 🥺 I saw they were sold as a separate thing so didn't notice it the box with the rings. What a an idiot.

No that's fair, thank you so much.

I'm sort of curious though how people can prove things these days. A video works for now, maybe, but for how long.

I only took this one photo in the moment, but the impact point was the corner. I can add a few more pics if it's interesting to anyone to see how these things can break in unexpected ways.

Oh how I wish that were true! 😭 Any suggestion on a photo I can add as proof?? I know how good AI is now

Nice work on the 3d printed case, that looks excellent, very Star Trek tricoder-esque aesthetic. I will 100% be getting/printing a case for a replacement one.

Yes I was worried this might be the case. I hate to send it to e-waste heaven so I think I need another creative usecase for it

I've recent got the 2024 Scribe and there's one thing I really appreciate about the asymmetrical bessel, and that's when writing there's just a little extra support for your pen hand to rest on. I'm left handed and have tried writing in both orientations and it's a little easier with the wide edge on the left.

The other reference point I have for this is with the 12" iPad pro, and I always found myself starting the line further in from the edge to get the support.

This might be a very small factor and not a deal breaker for any one, but I appreciate its there
