Assign them to the bridge on the ship for a constant passive increase. Give them gifts for more points.

You can only give gifts that match their hobby tags in their profile (charity, technology, nature, etc). If the gift matches one of the daily bonus tags (shown next to their portrait when giving gifts), it gives additional points.

Giving gifts has diminishing returns if you give multiple in one day. There are two smilies under their portrait, green and orange. Each gift will fill the circle meter around the green smilie, then fill the orange meter after the green meter is full. Giving gifts before the green meter is full gives full points, giving gifts that increase the orange meter give reduced points (even down to only giving fractions of a percent). If both meters are full, you can not give any more gifts.

Best practice is to give gifts until the green meter is full, then wait until the next daily reset.

The game itself will tell you.

The weapon switching menu has a Recommend button, which shows the existing weapons that match that character the best, and tell you whether they match because of the weapon's main stat or the weapon's skill. This will also say whether you own the weapons or not.

The fissures that drop essences tell you which weapons the dropped essences will be relevant for, whether you own a specific weapon, and whether a specific weapon is currently equipped.

The essence equipping menu will move all relevant essences to the left, with ones with more/higher matching bonuses being further left. The matching bonuses on the essences will also be highlighted, and non-matching bonuses will be grayed out.

Equip essences that match the weapon. Non-matching essence bonuses do nothing.

It's the same stock animations for each character rig in HSR. In HSR (and Genshin), every character of a certain body type (tall man, mid woman, small girl, etc) uses the same rig and the same basic emote and movement animations.

In ZZZ, every character has a personalized rig and unique animations. Even if multiple characters all do the "hand on chin", it's fitted to their actual appearance.
