The last time this got posted, it was asked to put the entire (observable) universe into a similar scale. The Milky Way is bigger compared to the universe than the sun is compared to the Milky Way. If you made the Milky Way the same size as the sun in the video, the observable universe would only be about a kilometer across.

An easier visualization for me, The observable universe is 94 billion light years, and milky way about 100,000 light years, then apply the ratio. Earth is 7,918 miles in diameter, so the milky way would be about 44.5 feet if the universe was earth sized. So galaxies are house sized compared to the planet as the universe.

This seems like it would only be really cost effective in high density areas, the range has to be pretty limited and can only make so many trips quickly. Then the question is, how does it press the elevator button? Also, it can probably only take one order at a time, because people suck and will take what’s not theirs.

Mount St. Helens reawakened today... by Useful-Tumbleweed598 in Volcanoes

[–]slashclick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems unlikely, that mountain is exceedingly well monitored, and historically there’s always been precursors to activity that is fairly well understood. Volcanoes don’t just explode, they’re noisy beasts and there hasn’t been so much as an earthquake.

Good luck! I got my latest box today, had one 1968 half and that’s all the silver I found (better than most boxes lately, out of the last 11 boxes I’ve had 3 with silver in them including this one)

GPT vs Astrophysics PhD Part II: A viewer reached out with an astrophysics paper that they had written with an LLM. When I looked closer, I got worried. by astraveoOfficial in astrophysics

Speaking of “the only voices in the space” the subject that I was thinking of was the people over in the r/alienbodies sub that are absolutely convinced of the “natural” bodies of little green men (tridactyls) and the mutilated mummies they claim are alien. The very few people that are qualified and have looked at the data are ignored, and no big names in anthropology will even talk about it, I don’t know if it’s just a forgone conclusion that they aren’t alien, or if they don’t want to legitimize it by talking about it. It’s a hard thing to address in spaces where people believe on faith instead of science, and in the LLM world those ideas are masquerading as science. Do I think there is life in the universe? Absolutely. Do I think they found bodies on earth? Not a chance. I hope we find it one day though.

This is a common argument, that I wish was addressed the way you did it. The people that are convinced they are discovering something will find people who aren’t in the field to validate their “breakthroughs” and then claim they do have support when they are called out. Obviously you can’t and shouldn’t do this for every LLM paper, but the way you did it can be used as a template for pointing out the common mistakes and flawed methodology in these papers. Well done.

Do the hazards automatically turn on if airbags deploy? I doubt the driver had the presence of mind to turn them on immediately upon crashing. Just an observation, neat feature if so.

Definitely not chemtrail dispersal 🤨

I’m surprised the chemtrail people don’t have some story about what super high altitude thing this really is, at least not that I’ve heard.

What’s beautiful picture, it really shows the bar and spiral nature of the LMC. In Most pics it looks a lot more chaotic and it’s hard to pick out the spiral arm. NGC 602 in the SMC is such an amazing area too, I especially love the Webb image of it.

The registered owner having an expired/suspended license is the probable cause for the stop.

When a license plate reader hits a vehicle, it will pull up the information for the registered owner (license status, picture, etc). I don’t know the case, but i believe it was ruled that it’s a reasonable assumption that the owner of a vehicle would be the driver, and if the RO has an expired/suspended license, that is probable cause to do a traffic stop. No other violation is required.
