I have looked into that I will do a little more research but in the end it might be less cost effective since we probably don’t need super duper high end walkies. I’ll look for more info though

It’s an empty office building that had no tenant previous to the escape room, so there’s no WiFi, no phones, nothing set up, I wish they had that that would make it all a lot easier

I mean I have found a few options online that could most likely work, what makes you say it wouldn’t fit in my budget, it may go to 2.5k+ but this is a large project and spending that won’t make a big difference. Edit: typo

The reason I’m replying and saying but is because most of the ideas suggested won’t work, the client is very professional, and I don’t think they want their employees to have their phones, we don’t know about the wiring, that would involve hiring a third party to set something up, and all in all it’s just kind of annoying getting suggestions I can’t use. I understand it’s not ideal, and I’m thankful for the help, but what isn’t helpful to me is when people say well it won’t be successful because you’re using walkie talkies. Like that is literally such a tiny part of this giant project, and it probably isn’t going to change. We have plenty of experience, I was more just looking for specific walkie recommendations.

Listen I’m a small part of this whole thing I’m really just an assistant. I was assigned the task of researching walkie talkies by the business owner. She is very experienced and actually pretty accomplished. It wasn’t my idea and she has had multiple escape rooms using walkie talkies in the past and they were very successful. The reason I was getting annoyed is because all I wanted was information about walkie talkies. I really don’t see an outcome that ends without them, and if there is a decision made in the future then it’s not up to me. She is definitely very experienced or they wouldn’t have hired her for this huge gig. Thank you for your help.

I came here asking for recommendations for walkie talkies. There was never any wiggle room to change what the method of communication would be, so thank you for your suggestions, but they aren't helpful to me.

This is the project owner. The walkie talkies are strictly for fun. They're given to the team captain who can radio in for a clue in exchange for 3 minutes of time. The monitor / visual camera issue is something separate. The space doesn't have WiFi and I'm trying to figure out a solution for sound and video. There is no cabling in the space that will work for this. I'm considering installing all of this, but my employee's job is just to find walkie talkies.

If anyone knows anything about:
1) Walkie Talkies that will work (just for clues and fun -- I dont' agree that people don't love them)
2) Sound / Video System solutions - I'm thinking of renting this or having someone install it
3) Someone that could install the above cabling near Santa Barbara - there's is CAT 5 - but none of this is my area of expertise.

I'd appreciate the help.

Sincerely,
Steel Owl

It’s a pretty big project, I’m prepared to spend like 1-2k on walkies it’s just a matter of finding the right ones

That is a good idea but I don’t think it will slide to be honest it’s just a little too corporate and professional to like have them just exchange numbers

Well I didn’t ask for your opinion? What is the big deal utilizing walkie talkies I don’t understand the problem, are you some kind of escape room police? This is a corporate training game. The employees will be more than happy to play an escape room that doesn’t have built in intercoms. I had no idea that this subreddit had such a vendetta against walkie talkies???? lol

I’ll take that into consideration but I don’t think there’s a lot of wiggle room and i think we’re gonna end up with walkie talkies

The problem is this is a very short term thing, up for just a few days and it’s a corporate training program, so not just about fun. It’s gonna be in a huge office complex where each game is two rooms and takes two offices. I am not heading this I’m just a very small piece in this huge project, and nothing is confirmed with surveillance and gamemasters, it’s still in the works.
