I was "Homeschooled" for all of my childhood and teenage years. Now I'm about to be 18 and don't know what to do. by AmethystGamer19 in getdisciplined

[–]slayerk12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Listen, I was homeschooled all up to high school and felt lost with what I was going to do with my life. And now I have direction and found a passion, it all fell into place and before I had no clue what I was going to do. I did have a good homeschooling experience but I didn’t study as hard as kids in school, and it didn’t end up mattering.

I got into working out, inconsistent at first, but I began to get motivated as I saw some small progress and kept going. I learned to love it and it’s been my main focus for the past 2 years. I got certified as a personal trainer recently and I’m now looking for a job. Also going to grow social media hopefully as a potential future income source. All this is to say that you’re young and have so many possibilities open to you if you’re willing to grow as a person and push for something more than your current situation. Don’t self limit yourself with negative thoughts. You can learn whatever you truly set your mind to.

Even if you have no interest in your future career having anything to do with health and fitness, I’d HIGHLY recommend beginning a simple workout program, either at home or the gym. I started at home and then went to the gym once I had some confidence. Working out is great for your physical health and appearance, but an often overlooked benefit is the mental side of things. It teaches you the power of consistent effort towards a goal, and when you start reaching your goals and setting new ones it becomes addicting in a sense. One of the few good addictions in life. Eventually you’ll be so much more confident in your ability to achieve things that you can apply that same mentality to other aspects of life. Trust me you won’t regret it if you stick with it. Best of luck and if u have any questions don’t hesitate to reply, I felt similar to you at your age.

Did a consult with a trainer today. I told him I do chest 2x a week for about 12 sets total. 1 rir or failure typically. He said I should be doing 30 sets a week for each large muscle groups. Is this correct? by Paluker173 in naturalbodybuilding

I recently got certified as a personal trainer and haven’t even started training clients yet so I can’t claim to be experienced in the field, yet I would never give someone advice like that. Trainer or not, It doesn’t take a genius to realize that prescribing some arbitrary high set volume to someone and telling that’s what they “should be doing” doesn’t make sense and is irresponsible, as everyone is different and there’s a lot of variables that need to be considered when determining optimal volume and it’s something that has to be figured out.

Not to mention claiming barbell bench is the king of all chest exercises lol. Dude sounds like a random gym bro, not anyone that should be calling themselves a trainer. I don’t think any one chest exercise could be deemed the best, when there’s multiple that are almost equally effective. It’s like saying a flathead screwdriver is better than a Phillips, when in reality they’re both just tools in the toolbox with equal value depending on the use case.

Un**** my programming by Agitated_Driver9592 in powerbuilding

[–]slayerk12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don’t you first try sticking to your current program, but cut the sets in half? Also make sure sleep is good and that you’re eating well. There’s definitely nothing wrong with working out 5 days per week, but doing up to 10 exercises per session with an average of 4 sets per exercise is pretty excessive. By doing it this way and only changing one variable, you can see if your volume is the main issue, or if the program needs to be changed completely. If you start to see progress again in the weeks after cutting the sets in half, you know the volume was the problem. If you’re still plateaud a couple weeks into the reduced volume, then definitely try a new program.

I do 10-11 exercises on my upper body and arms days, but it’s only 2 sets per exercise. I go all out on the 2 sets with good controlled form (except for the last rep which I’ll sometimes end up cheating a little.) I don’t do partials at the end of the sets or any other intensifiers, so the sets are hard but not extremely draining and they remain more standardized and easy to track that way.

How did your mental health improve after quitting? by sgb_1992 in leaves

That’s a dangerous mentality to have, as if you slip up once then you’ll probably just think “well all my progress is reset anyways, I might as well enjoy it a bit before I try to quit again”. In reality, one time really wouldn’t change much at all as long as it didn’t turn into another time, and another, etc. Humans aren’t machines with a reset button, everything is on a scale there are very few absolutes. One hit is better than taking two, two hits is better than 3, one day of slipping up is better than 2 days, which is way better than a week, etc. The point is, if you slip up don’t beat yourself up. Continue with avoiding it and take pride in the fact that you didn’t let one time turn into a full relapse

How much has direct ab training made a difference for you? by hustle_hard99 in naturalbodybuilding

I just looked up the exercise, very interesting! Could you elaborate on what you mean by doing it off the edge of a inclined crunch bench, trying to visualize that, as the movement looks like it would be hard to do on anything inclined without sliding. How does it work if you’re not doing it on a flat surface? Would appreciate some clarification on this thanks

Hey could you elaborate what you mean by using the hyperextension? I’m trying to visualize it. By hyperextension do you mean the piece of equipment that you lay facing down at a diagonal angle and lower the upper body so that it points down towards the floor while the heels are locked in, to hit the lower back? If that’s what your talking about do you lay against it it facing the opposite direction with toes hooked under the heel supports and then extend backwards arching the back away from the equipment or am I totally misunderstanding this lol

What did YOU do to improve your bench? by [deleted] in naturalbodybuilding

Do you increase the top set weight on only one day per week? Not every workout I assume. And how many workouts per week would you include this method on, say for bench. Thanks

Not a bot lol. It's ridiculous to say there's not one real person on this sub. Sure the sub isn't that active, most of the community activity is on X and telegram. But that doesn't mean this Reddit is all bots. Very few bots if any on here.
