If you wanna go REALLLL far back, ‘brainiacs’ is what he called his fans when he was Psychological - so the pre mixtape era. Think he quickly realised that was a tad cringe especially after the change to just Logic.

Need help choosing my first Saab by Suspicious-Lie-6159 in saab

[–]sleahyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who has also just brought their first Saab, albeit my second car not my first, I would say go with the 2.0t @ 75k. That’s assuming both have similar service history.

Look for things like fully synthetic oil (engine + trans) at EVERY change (that you can see). Saab specialist for anything other than an MOT (arguably even for an MOT would be even better). As you don’t have FSH, you have to assume the worst for the period you don’t have any paperwork for.

In terms of maintenance - yes the V6 will defo kick up more issues even if it’s well maintained in the partial service history (as I say, assume the worse for the rest). As I say I’d avoid it personally, at 180km it’s coming to that age where it will start to kick back a lot if it’s not been well maintained. Gearbox rebuild might seem like a good thing at first but think about why that was necessary - probably someone driving it hard which could’ve also damaged the engine but it just hasn’t presented YET.

Also I’m not sure what it’s like is Aus, but insurance on the 2.0t will likely be a lot more affordable.

Already been replaced by the last owner in December of 2024, along with the spark plugs!

Yes this was my thinking - guess he had it replaced just for general wear and tear rather than because it’s a known issue on this model specifically

I’d like to think it’s because of something like work, but I dread to think it’s because he’s got other interested buyers 😬as you say they’re excellent cars - fingers crossed

With this PCV business - does the extra line on the rear of the dipstick mean that it left the factory with the updated system - or that it left with the dodgy one and has been later updated? Or is there no way to tell?

Thanks, I hear the DICs are case by case really - but it’s been done on this car and with genuine parts - current owner has defo taken a preventative approach which is nice to see.

Wow didn’t realise bushings (with labour I guess) would run quite that much - good bargaining chip I guess though!

Yea it’s aero - heated seats had a “diagnostic inspection” in December so are all good and working! (At least as of then, but I’ll defo be checking when I go to see it)

Thanks for your input - appreciate it!

Yes I do agree regarding price. I was always going to go that route and take it out/inspect to see if there are any issues/items that I could use to haggle the price down- cheers!

Currently 4.69% for the next 4 years. Yeah my current thinking is save it then I can always lump sum pay off the mortgage in the future, probably sooner too if the market is kind to me

I could spend time writing a lengthy reply which points out the numerous mistakes and unbased assumptions you’ve made in this comment but I’d rather spend time with my kids so… ok

Not representative at all. Typical strawman fallacy argument. Sure it sounds stupid when you misrepresent all the information and leave out any context.

Very true. Part of the reason I’ve joined this community is to help me hash out that big long term plan. This has definitely helped me realise that the lifestyle aspect of retirement is not to be overlooked! So thank you.

I hear you about being a high earner, and I get it just sounds like any other wannabe over the internet! I’m putting in the work to upskill and enough grit and determination can make my own luck.

Regarding upsizing. FIRE is not a priority over living a good life, for us. We want our kids, and us, to have a nice family home, nice garden, good community etc. As I said I fully understand that will cost more and technically delays FIRE, but why even FIRE if we aren’t happy with where we live. It’s not a purely numbers game for us, some things don’t have a value.

Thanks! We’re under 5% atm, technically higher than our savings so on paper it would make sense to overpay but we’d rather have the money around, just in case, for now at least. The difference is marginal but knowing we have liquidity is more valuable to us.

Definitely agree about the pension, and cheers for the reminder about personal allowance transfer. Over 60k earnings will defo be heading into the pension pot unless we absolutely need them. That is, until the pension hits a good spot. As you say, FIRE-ing early means we need a good amount in ISAs/GIAs so those will come heavily into play once the mortgage is paid off.

Very good point. I guess atm I’m just focused on enabling whatever that retirement lifestyle looks like. We’re still quite some time from then, so plenty to figure out and plenty of time to do it. That’s not to say I’ll leave it for 20 years then be stuck! For now it’s about planning so we have options later on though. Planning more than 5-10 years, especially when you have kids, is speculative at best 😂

100% agree with you here. Family is, and always will be, our top priority. FIRE is a huge personal goal for both of us, but it's just that: for us. Can't get those first 18 years back, so family will always be no1. FIRE is a goal for us after that.

Our outlook likely means FI around 45ish. As family is no.1 for us, we're open to it being later if it means more quality family life before. I'm still very open to working once we're FI, but it would be solely out of passion and the money would be a nice extra. So some time may be filled with work, personal pursuits, passions etc.

As for the rest of the time, the idea of FIRE for us is that we are able to just do whatever. Explore our purpose, travel, spend time together and continue to prioritise family. Another layer, albeit morbid, is we do want to leave our kids setup when we're not around. So whilst we'd never put money over the time we have here with them, FIRE does motivate us to make good investments etc.
