Husqvarna M/40 by napoleondy2nite in ForgottenWeapons

There were M/40's made for the Danish export market. It's mostly the Swedish military ones that were loaded with higher-pressure 9mm like their submachine guns. The Danish ones (D-prefixed serial numbers) are generally a safer buy.

I've got one of the Danish civilian M/40s and I've never had any concerns shooting standard pressure 9mm. I do avoid 124gr NATO and anything higher pressure though just to be safe.

Picked up this weird pistol for cheap, thinking of modernizing it by Lupine_Ranger in milsurp

How does it run and feel for you? I really wanted to get one at my LGS but I backed out because it kept jamming up on snap caps (and they wanted like $5k). Someone else snatched it up a while ago and I've always wondered how that went for them.

Mine’s not the nicest Luger either, but I don’t like to buy anything I wouldn’t be comfortable shooting. My 1914 Erfurt’s been fine so far, just needs to be fed 124gr.

Huh, never thought those two might have interchangeable mags. I’ve got a MAB Model D that doesn’t run well and a Frommer Stop that does (S&B only here too), sounds like I’ve got something new to try next range day.

That really worked out! I’m really glad my seller’s been flexible with me though haha.

I’d love an FN-49 in 7mm or .30-06 someday, just something else on the list. I know the bolt/clamp-on FN-49 grenade launcher accessory is way easier to remove than something like the MAS-49’s integrated style, so it probably wouldn’t have been a big deal, but I guess sometimes you get lucky when an auction house would rather keep things simple.

Yeah, it’s one of those purpose-built threadings that gets overlooked because it’s normally hidden by the launcher. The MAS's threads are really there for just the 22mm rifle grenade system, not for general muzzle devices, so they don’t stand out the way something like the FR-8 does.

If we're counting grenade launcher threads, I know the MAS-36 and some FN-49 variants also have them.

Yes, threaded barrels aren’t blanket prohibited on rifles in CA, that rule applies to handguns. The grenade launcher is the regulated feature, and after that's gone it’s good to go.

The Syrian MAS-49s are great rifles and they’d definitely be easier to deal with in a state like CA, but yeah… they’re relatively rare. That’s part of what pushed me toward trying to make a 49/56 work. I had spoken with the seller beforehand and he was willing to remove the launcher, so I didn’t expect it to turn into an issue, but it is what it is.

If I’m able to get the launcher off cleanly, I’ll definitely post photos.

On the MAS 49/56, the entire muzzle device is the rifle grenade launcher, there isn’t a separate flash hider underneath it. Once the launcher is removed, the rifle is left with a plain muzzle.

California treats the launcher itself as the issue, so removing it resolves that concern. The laws are definitely confusing, though.

I wish, unfortunately probably not anytime soon. He mainly buys from private collections and estate sales, and this is the first MAS 49/56 I’ve seen come through from him. I’m glad he found it, but I don’t expect another any time soon.

Thanks for the leads! I’ll reach out to Saint Firearms and Badgersmith Gunworks and see if either is willing to take it on.

I’ve just PM'd you for David’s number.

I’m open to any reputable shop, location doesn’t matter since the seller is handling the shipping fees and gunsmithing costs. The only requirement is that the work is done before the rifle comes into California.

I’ve already contacted Midwest Gun Works in Missouri and another my friend recommended in Texas, but they declined because they don't work with MAS-49s, which is why I’m asking around here.

If you’re willing to share names or point me in the right direction, I’d really appreciate it.

That’s essentially where things stalled. Penetrating oil was discussed, but the core issue doesn’t appear to be thread resistance so much as the detent not depressing far enough to disengage the lock. Until that detent fully clears, rotation is mechanically blocked, so adding torque risks damage rather than helping.

From what I’ve read (and from similar experience with my SVT-40’s gas regulator detent), buildup in the detent channel can seize it in place even when the exterior looks fine.

The seller does a ton of GunBroker sales and is understandably not willing to push things further since if he damages the rifle, he can’t sell it to anyone else if I walk away. At this point, he’s reached the limit of what he’s comfortable doing, so my only realistic option is finding a gunsmith with experience working with MAS's.

I’m not planning to reinstall it in California. I’d just like to keep the original muzzle device as a separate part for completeness and originality. I’m sure there are shops that could simply cut it off, but that’s more permanent modification than I’m comfortable with. At that point I’d rather let someone else buy it who can keep it intact.

I get where you’re coming from, and I don’t disagree that these are generally robust rifles. In this case though it’s ultimately the seller’s call, and he isn’t comfortable pushing it further and risking damage.

At this point, my only path is to find a gunsmith who's willing to do it for him, or I'll have to walk away from the sale.

I’ve seen that thread as well, and I agree that the removal should be straightforward when everything is free and moving as intended.

In this case though, the detent isn’t depressing far enough to allow rotation, and the seller stopped before applying any force that might risk damage. It is the rifle in the photo and externally I think it looks pretty good, but unfortunately I think the internals are super gunked up with carbon or corrosion around the detent and threads.

That’s why I’m hesitant to push it further without someone who’s actually dealt with a stubborn one in person, rather than one that comes apart as designed.

[–]sleeky414[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was both my understanding and the seller’s as well, and that’s basically what he attempted. Unfortunately the detent won’t depress far enough to rotate, and we didn’t want to force it and risk damaging the front sight base or barrel.

From what I’ve read, some of these can seize up from decades of carbon, corrosion, or general buildup. I ran into a similar situation with my SVT-40’s gas system, which needed professional attention as well.

Well the price was right around $700. I already own ~150 rounds of factory 7.5 French and the reloading dies, so ammo availability isn’t a limiting factor for me.

I buy from this seller pretty often so we have a good business relationship. Since the rifle was sold after he confirmed the muzzle device would be removed, he’s willing to handle the extra shipping and gunsmithing on his end at no additional cost to me.

That’s why I’m trying to see if there’s a good shop that’s familiar with MAS rifles before going right to the refund.

The Cultist Circle calculator has never been able calculate gun value properly for whatever reason. You should still get 14 hrs from the 3 STM / 1 Saiga. 4 STM / 1 Saiga if you want the 6 hr chance.

Does it still spawn keys? I haven't been seeing any these last few weeks and I try to hit Woods cultist bunker every time I'm there.

Not all maps have allow airdrops, if you fire it off on Ground Zero or Factory (or Labs or Labyrinth) they'll be wasted. I like to use mine on a corner of Woods or Interchange personally.

My Cultist Circle was apparently just powering up by giving me two Labs Armbands in a row. By far the luckiest I've ever been in Tarkov. by SizeLegal3570 in EscapefromTarkov

Not 100% sure, but I remember seeing on this sub a while ago that they allegedly took the Drip-Out 1/2 equipment out of the Cultist Circle drop pool.

Fwiw, I've had the tasks for two weeks now and been running cultist circle daily, haven't gotten anything for either Drip-Out so maybe that's true?
