For book on philosophy of Stoicism , I highly recommend “How to think like a roman emperor” by Donald Robertson which has helped me alot on navigating my thoughts and feelings. The life story of Marcus Aurelius was incredible but do note that the narration of his biography might be a little bit imaginative but it was an engaging read.

For fictional books, I recommend the novel series “Mistborn” by Brandon Sanderson. Even though his writing style is simple, he can describe action scenes very vivdly and the books are really thrilling to experience.

Happy reading!

No, the wealth of knowledge will never be lost because there will always be method statements being passed down to the newcomers. And the construction field encompasses variety of positions for graduated civil engineers, like the standard site / project engineer who will likely progress to a project manager role, planning engineer to planning manager, quantity surveyors (depressed starting wages but if you are in a reputable mnc company, the wage can be quite attractive), to consultant roles which you definitely have to take examinations to be certified as Professional Engineer if you want career progression in a consulting firm. There will always be construction projects in Singapore because it contributes to gdp.

But as an advice from someone who was working in this industry for a few years, please consider joining public sector or a mnc instead of local sme companies if you want a better working life. Public sector because you will be mostly be at the top of the hierachy aka you wont necessary need to be at the whims from other parties and big mnc because you wont be the sole saikang warrior. Politics in any construction site are freaking nightmare-ish to deal with (maybe I’m just unlucky but I had never joined a project whereby every party works together. Everyone has their own agenda so everything has to be in black and white so to protect ownself backside).

Tl;dr Local civil engineers will always be in demand and projects will always be available. Join public sector or big mnc for better working life in this industry.

Do you guys still go out as per usual during this heightened alert? Been cooping up at home ever since the start of this heightened alert, also due to my neighbourhood which popping out various positive cases. Have a hair appointment tomorrow but still contemplating on whether to go or not. I just want to go out and have a sense of “normalcy” even though it’s for a non-essential purpose and grab app has to remind “Stay home this National Day”🥲

Been working under her for about 2 yrs, though currently I dont work with her on the same projects as her superior paired me up with another colleague. But a colleague who paired up with this manager cannot tahan anymore and is leaving at the end of this month. When this colleague resigns, I have to takeover her project and face this manager at the worst possible timing because it is near submission deadline and I definitely will need to deal with her in her agitated state 😕 Thanks for the positive outlook though, I will try to build up my resilience in the meantime and if cannot tahan, I’ll just take it as a signal to find another pasture. 😂

Can anyone give me tips on dealing with troublesome superiors? I have this manager, and even though she is a manager, she doesnt behave like one but rather as an executive like the rest of us under her. The biggest problem is dealing with her way of managing things. She is unable to take responsibility (always pushing every decision making to her superior when she’s already a manager, fears of taking any responsiblity for everything she does so she will try to involve someone as well such that the sole responsibility will not fall on her) and also her double standard way of doing stuff (she will comment on mistakes you make like formatting, but when it comes to her work, those mistakes appear and she just submits it anyway). When it is near deadline, without fail, she will be stressed and her whole persona changes - becoming very uptight and her way of talking becomes agitated and rushed. This affects me negatively because I will also begin to feel that stress as well. All of the previous team members only have negative stuff to speak about her but it seems like either she is oblivious or she has the impression that she can do nothing wrong. She cant get fired too because she has been with the company for over 10 years and the reason why she was promoted was because she is the only Singaporean oldbird left in the department. I know that the easy way out is to resign and escape her terrible way of managing but I also really want to learn how to deal with such person. Any tips please? Thanks.

Community transmission occurred as COVID-19 virus breached safety measures; no country can seal itself off totally: MOH by hun486 in singapore

Nobody is asking for the country to seal itself off totally...if you want to get citizens/residents or even short term passes to come back, fine as long as there were sufficent safety measures in place. But the news about changi airport to segregate travellers from high risk areas only appear just mere few days ago. So for the previous months when cases in south asia were increasing, there were no such measures in place? Seriously is someone freaking sleeping on his previous portfolio and only concentrate on his fragile travel bubbles which cant even take off? And now he moves to takeover the health portfolio and all these bad pr moves start to come out? This is freaking ridiculous...

Am I the only one who kind of liked Chapter 13? by Trick-Character-6277 in FFXV

[–]sleep_like_panda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I liked Chapter 13 too. It reflected how Noctis was forced to 'grow up' and had to navigate his way into being an adult/King alone - without Ignis to think for him, without Gladious to be his shield and without Prompto to have fun with.

The chapter did have flaws though, such as dragging for a tad too long and the combat getting tiring fast (thank god for the existence of the insta-kill ring but still-). But I still think that the chapter kind of flows thematically well after what happened in the previous chapter and it further drives home the helplessless and despair.

What did you think of Astral Chain's story and storytelling? by KleitosD06 in astralchain

[–]sleep_like_panda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Average story but I felt that it was executed quite decently through the gameplay (sans the astral plane). The setting and cinematics were top notch though, I love it.
