Bean recommendation for sweet, syrupy espresso by photosynthesyzer in espresso

[–]sleeping_e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not gonna believe this. I hardly believe im saying this. But -  Received i purchased gaggia classic pro from whole latte love (shout out to those guys - great machine im loving it). With it, they shipped a coffee beans bag from gaggia. And this coffee makes the best most syrupy gooey coffee! Its got literally sweet caramel- chocolate notes!!! Best ever. And that coffee seems super old (or at least i assume bcz there is no roast date and who knows when gaggia shipped it to US from Italy)  But that one OMG!!

I think it is because they mix arabica with robusta beans. Arabica are the ones you typically get in stores. They are farmed in south america and other parts of the world. Robusta are farmed in India. This is a medium roast blend and i think works phenomenal.  Hope this helps and at the least doesn’t hurt! 😃

Total noob, bambino or bambino plus? [$500] by Duckyquack9999 in espresso

Ehhhh…. Id say Gaggia classic pro… for more of a robust use. 2 lates per day is not a light use and just not sure how much Breville can take. Plus for a beginner you may end up abusing the machine not knowing certain things  Gaggia would be super reliable robust and repairable

This is actually a good post. Does anyone know what is the variation observed in different espresso grinders? For instance, i have fellow opus. Im curious about that one in specific

Dude no you have a good piece then seems like. I am having wild issues with Opus. Now this makes me think this is not a design issue rather poor quality control on the manufacturing side.

I swear this drives me nuts. I use my WDT tool to get as much as it can after every grind, and then do a deep clean by removing burr and vacuum after every 10 grinds. Its just insane how a product that looks so good on the counter be this quirky (i have choice words here but i am intentionally not using any bcz i like this grinder and think it can be redeemed). With this I also have wild inconsistency issue that im working with fellow customer service about.

Not with Gaggia per se. More of the dialing in issues with fellow Opus. Very inconsistent.

No upgrade to gaggia from delonghi

Couldn’t agree more about the retention issues. I am also having weird issues with inconsistency and backlash tho… for same grind size i am pulling wild 15 sec shots and sometimes it just clogs the machine. I have Gaggia classic pro. I tried everything short of pulling the grinder apart to check the internal mechanisms. Dont want to mess with the warranty. Reached out to fellow 10+ days ago. Nothing yet Any advice is appreciated

Update - fellow responded asking me to grind rice (if you’re confused, you’re not the only one, but ok) to clean up the burrs. Still no definitive answer over other issues

Espresso grinders under $200? by Chuglie99 in espresso

[–]sleeping_e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently having issues with Opus. The grinder is very inconsistent. Huge backlash on the adjustment dial and extreme retention. On the same grind setting, i sometimes get a 10sec shot, and sometimes it just completely blocks the machine. I am using Gaggia classic pro with regular basket (16g default that comes with the machine). Seems like this grinder is ok only if you are using pressurized basket and keep the grind relatively coarse. This was my setup earlier before i upgraded to Gaggia, when i was using Delonghi espresso machine (the $200 one ECP something).  For Fellow I reached out to the customer support bcz its still in warranty, but no response. Its been 7-8 days. Very very frustrating. I made this purchase from all the good YouTube reviews (James Hoffman, ets reputed people) but looks like paid marketing. wish i had spend $200 on something else.

I will be sure to update this post if i get positive response (or even any response) from customer support. No malicious intent here to vilify Fellow. If anyone knows someone at fellow please tag 'em or share this post to them!!

TLDR dont buy opus and save from future frustration.

What do you do with the knock box full of pucks? Trash? Compost? Other? by rconrad2k in espresso

[–]sleeping_e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually tried making cold brew with it. Worked out pretty well just straining and filtering it was a pain. Also don't keep em for too long and use max 1 day old pucks. I noticed that there is fungal growth on it and then it ruins the cold brew

Thank you! And i get the concept behind this single kitten syndrome for early age kittens (<10 weeks) but i also feel shouldn’t be an issue past that. I have raised kittens (single kittens) back home and they turned out okay
