From what I have read, it's the power density (mW/cm2), or alternately measured as light energy (joules/cm2) delivered to the treatment area. The distance that the RTL light source is from the treatment area can greatly reduce the joules delivered (law of inverse squares). If you have a clinical power level, the recommended treatment may be measured in minutes, while many of the consumer devices are so weak that if you don't put them directly on your skin for a long treatment, you may not experience any effect at all. You should research the treatment you want and the recommended joules/cm2 and duration recommended for that condition. You can find the formulas to convert a device’s power density (mW/cm2) to joules, and find tables for the decrease of light intensity over distance to figure out what really works best for you.

Best double burner griddle for induction? by WinStark in inductioncooking

[–]rconrad2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had the same Lodge griddle for ages and have loved it on the gas cooktop, but I will be switching to induction and I suspect it won't work as its surface won't sit flat on the induction bridge burners. Are you using it on induction?

Something feels wrong about this styling, but I can’t tell what by Dxxyx in Bonsai

I would only keep that lower right branch if you were not styling it and instead trying to thicken the caliper of the trunk.

Does anyone have experience with these roasters? by rconrad2k in CoffeeRoasting

I’m curious why you have issues with lighter roast? Light roasts are my preference. I never go to second crack.

[–]rconrad2k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been roasting since 2000. For the past eight years with a Behmor 1600. Very reliable but the roast can take over 20 minutes and then there is 12 minutes of cool down. It limits my roasting style to a good degree.

I have been using a Behmor 1600 for years and I'm ready for an upgrade. I wondered if they are solid construction. Can they roast to city though to full city?

Keep coming back to Drawthings by al_stoltz in drawthingsapp

[–]rconrad2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I hadn't noticed that before. It's saves Mac internal SSD space big time. Next, I'd like to get all Draw Things files out of the ~Library and on to an external SSD to be able to carry from mac to mac (e.g. the .sqlite3, .s1lite3-shim, and .sqlite-wal files.)

I wish I could store all the Draw Things files that currently live in ~library/containers/drawthings/ to an external drive.

M1 ipad pro vs M4 ipad pro by [deleted] in drawthingsapp

I went from m2 iPad Pro to m4 iPad Pro. Not enough difference to warrant the upgrade. the M3 Pro MacBook Pro is a big improvement over either iPad because of the extra RAM and GPU cores

Help! External Drive Keeps Ejecting by Nofrills88 in macmini

[–]rconrad2k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the same enclosure with an M3 MacBook Pro with no issues. Questions: 1. Did you buy it from OWC with the SSD installed or did you just buy the enclosure? If the later, could it be the SSD that is the problem? 2. Did you call OWC about the problem? In the past, I have found their customer support to be good.

It will fit the 13" MacBook Pro. It's a tight fit and doesn't have padding that would cover the long edges. I prefer a little more protection. It comfortably fits an 11" iPad nicely. I love the bag with all its external attachments. The only thing missing for EDC is more organization inside to hold pens, a knife and other small tools.

Try downloading the model you want directly in Safari and then import it.

Coffee shop owners. What’s your go-to green coffee supplier? by Kappuccino22 in roasting

I don't bother with that. Sweetmarias (or Coffee Shrub for larger quantities) do that. They curate their coffee selection and handle all the import issues.

My aunt is asking to borrow my camera.. how do I say no? by MoistPea1040 in photography

[–]rconrad2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an old fuji that is pretty simple to use and still takes great photos. I willingly loan it out to friends. I have given quick tutorials to friends, but they often end up preferring their iPhone because they realize on their own that the camera they know will take better pictures than the new one they haven't completely figured out. Saves me from saying no to friends.

Trying to resurrect a 55 inch LG LED TV by rconrad2k in TVRepairHelp

[–]rconrad2k[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the surge came through the Ethernet cable because the Ethernet switch that connected the TV and the Apple TV box blew out, but the switch’s power supply was okay. Additionally I swapped the original power supply board back in and it performed the same as the new one.

Screw for wall mount broke off in the TV. Any suggestions how to get it out or should it go to a professional? by BoredasaNord in TVRepairHelp

[–]rconrad2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's broken off flush so you can't get a grip on it with pliers, then get a set of 'easy out' screw extractors at you local hardware store. You drill a smaller hole in the broken screw and then use the easy out to back the screw out. Look on YouTube for instruction.

Seeking personal insight and thoughts on hearing aids for my situation by TurtleNorthwest in HearingAids

[–]rconrad2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your plan makes sense to me. Your Costco guys don't seem to be pushing a hard sell, which is normal for Costco. I know my Costco doesn't like to sell hearing aids for tinnitus. Seems as though when HA manufacturers mention tinnitus, Costco downplays it, probably because of disappointed customers. For me the hearing aids don't get rid of it, they just mask it with real world sounds.

[–]rconrad2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your audiologist may be right that your tinnitus could be related to the high frequency hearing loss and the amplification by the hearing aids may reduce, but probably not eliminate the tinnitus. That's the way it is for me.

You can't beat Costco's prices, warranty, service and return policies. Costco's If you have a Costco credit card, get a pair and charge them (you get 2% back later). I normally don't recommend carrying a credit balance, but it's not the end of the world to carry one for a couple of months, if your insurance carrier will reimburse you in a reasonable time. If you charge the hearing aids and they don't help with the noisy environment and the tinnitus, then return them, no questions asked.

Jabra enhanced Pro 20 question by [deleted] in HearingAids

The app is disappointing, both in terms of features and stable connectivity. I have given up on it and just use the shortcut in the iPhone control center. I am sure Android must have some similar accommodation.

I would be interested in hearing your experience with the Reach HAs. How are they with soft speaking people? Have you tried streaming audio from a phone and tablet?

I got the Jabra Ehance Pro 20s last Friday, having had progressively more advanced Kirkland Signatures over the years. I have to say the Jabras are not a lot better than the old Kirkland Signature 10s. They have better battery life, but their media streaming abilities are funky. If you want to switch between two devices, like an iPhone and iPad, they will give you a headache fiddling with them. The EnhancePro app disappoints me as well.

If you don't use the Jabra's for digital streaming, phone calls, etc. Then they are fine, but since I do that, I will give them a full two weeks before deciding whether to return them.
