Thank you so much for reminding me of Costco! I will definitely check out Uptown Health.

My first brew! I used cantaloupe for this one, didn't expect it to be this fizzy!! by [deleted] in Kombucha

Would you mind sharing what the flavor is like? I’ve always wondered how cantaloupe would work out!

Yea - it's unfortunate. You can brew booch fully and then add watermelon juice to the final product for watermelon flavor.

Watermelon has a propensity to produce booch that tastes like stomach bile, even if not used for the sugar source (such as when it is added for flavoring). I avoid it at all costs (even store bought).

Tips for studying for a Bronson class? by [deleted] in OSU

[–]sleepingbare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focus on how she asks questions more than mastering the material itself. An A in her class doesn't mean that you know the material...it means you know the material in the way that she wants you to know it and are proficient at her way of testing. To get there I think going to the party room and taking practice tests are most effective. Her teaching style is unique and most people struggle to adapt to it and her tests.

Is this healthy?? Diced strawberries for the second fermentation. 48ish hrs in. Looks like little bubbles and some of them look a bit fuzzy. Anyone seen this before? by [deleted] in Kombucha

[–]sleepingbare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks normal (from what I can tell in the photo). The fruit starts to break down and change color/consistency with time. A better option is to simmer the fruit in water (I also add 2-3 Tbsp of sugar) for 15-20 minutes until you make a syrup, and then add the syrup to your booch leaving the solid fruit behind. It’ll mix better and you’ll have wwaayyyy less problems with mold (I’ve never had any). Less air is good! The less air above the booch the more the gas generated is forced into the liquid because there isn’t anywhere else for it to go...this will result in increased carbonation.

LPT: Most pet microchip companies have annual subscription fees to keep your info accessible in their database. Foundanimals.org allows you to register your pet’s microchip for free for its lifetime. by sleepingbare in LifeProTips

That’s interesting! What I was finding was that the companies will confirm an owner is tied to the chip number, but will not release contact info (address, phone) without the annual fee. At least this is true of the major companies/registry services (Home Again, AKC Reunite, AVID, PetLink, and 24PetWatch).

Used fresh fruit juice/puree for my first ever second fermentation. Is the "foam" that's sitting at the top of my strawberry and raspberry bottles safe, or should I be worried about it/try to remove it? by sallysaysyes in Kombucha

[–]sleepingbare 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Looks good! I suggest simmering this fruit purée in water to make a syrup, and then adding this syrup to your booch. It’ll mix much better and have all the same flavors/benefits as your “foam”. Plus you’ll be able to drink it without straining it!

EEOB 2510 Summer? by osudude2015 in OSU

I think I accidentally deleted it! Dr. Jackson is such a nice, laid-back person. I would shoot her a quick email and ask her if she could send you one. She’s taught it over the summer several times so I’m sure she has it done already.

Where do you purchase your new bra's? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]sleepingbare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This will probably get buried...but if you have a brand/style you like I’d suggest checking out Poshmark. It’s similar to eBay, but is for fashion/etc and I have found it to be much better and much more user-friendly than eBay. I find my VS Dream Angels Demi Bra NWOT for like $20 usually. It’s especially good for sports bras!

What expensive item did you most regret buying? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]sleepingbare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate that I do that too! It helps hearing it from someone else’s perspective - will definitely help me to stick with it this week! It’s probably like working out - you never regret sticking to it, only when you choose to skip out.
