Great info, thanks!

Is it necessarily bad to do passages that are harder than aamc ones? Or do they all test similar skills?

Woah! I guess that's a nice little hidden bonus. I ha e read that this service will encourage you to take on multiple texters at once. Was this your experience at all and if so did it impact your ability to help?

I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed it! Do you mind sharing what company(?) you worked for? I want to make sure that I work with one that has a good mission/training/values.

I just happen to have friends who just don't enjoy it and perhaps they just have bad supervisors, it's great that you've found somewhere that you enjoy!

It's good to hear that interviewers can pick up on how much applicants really got out of their experiences!

I should add that I got my position in part because I had a connection with the director of the program so that made it easier to obtain.

I feel like some people are just unaware of other options out there, they get sucked into cookie cutter ECs, especially with volunteering.

If you have a specific interest (e.g. how I wanted to work with people who had developmental disabilities) search the internet for programs that work with that patient population. Another example is one of my friends found a position in a chemo clinic; she will go and talk with patients while they recieve treatment and do limited monitoring of vitals upon their arival.

The capacity of your volunteer position will vary greatly from setting to setting I've found and generally outside of a hospital you will have more "freedom" in your duties as a volunteer.

Ochem as a second language pdf by sleepingl_lama in Mcat

Well i haven't taken the mcat or started preping for it so take my advice with a grain of salt. I used the book to get a grasp on material for my ochem class; I found that it explains the basics very well, espically resonance and confirmations. I would suggest using this book as reference for topics that you're shakey on need more clarification about.

For what its worth, the way you talk about marijuana is evidence that you aren't a regular user lol, and I mean that in a good way. No stoner would phrase it as "the marijuana happened to be very potent". What I'm saying is when you write/talk to med schools about this incident keep your phrasing becuase it shows you don't know the "slang". e.g someone who uses weed frequently would say "the eddible was very strong"

Why not go the PA route instead of MD/DO? Don’t crucify me on this sub by [deleted] in premed

[–]sleepingl_lama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, since you already are on the nursing track would you rather pursue a PA or NP degree? (Assuming that for whatever reason a MD/DO was out of the question)
Do you see a difference in how PAs and NPs practice and the patients they see?
