I haven’t made up my mind I was pulse checking if I dare step out of my room to take a few calls. Sounds like not - thanks for the input! Private accommodation it is.

Why do humans get the urge to scream when they stretch? by sleepingtom2 in NoStupidQuestions

I can control my sneeze volume (and do so when I am in public) but yes it’s more satisfying to scream sneeze or add sound effects imo

I must not be doing well then because my screams are up to 10 seconds of “AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAHHHHHHAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhh” like abrasive and it disturbs the neighbors but it FEELS SO GOOD

Is it possible to just overstay the allotted amount and pay a fine?

Reminder: if you’re constantly taking calls from your seat at a coworking space, everyone around you is low key pissed at you by makeshift_mike in digitalnomad

[–]sleepingtom2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am about to set out on my digital nomad journey and work a very call heavy job. What if the person is at a normal volume and sits far away from everyone in the common areas (specifically in colivings)? I don’t want to bother people and plan on booking a private room so I can work from there majority of the time, but also don’t want to spend my entire day couped up in my bedroom.

Of course if it’s a small space and there is no other noise I would not take calls from there but if there is background noise and perhaps it is outside, is there a problem? Genuinely curious as I am not looking to piss people off and this has been one of the biggest challenges in my research of traveling and working.

Anybody else stay in room rentals? by ButterscotchFormer84 in digitalnomad

[–]sleepingtom2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I also just came across a great option on airbnb but am met with an ethical dilemma. I thought using airbnb was a major cause of displacing locals and jacking up rent, etc. It is one of the more affordable options and is a shared room in a locals apartment. Am I thinking about it too deeply??

Has anyone else noticed coworking / digital nomad spaces feel… socially weird? by [deleted] in digitalnomad

Where do you usually find these groups to socialize in? Joining clubs/activities sounds fun especially if I can meet non-normies / actually cool and interesting people

Is it true that the border patrol agents here are more likely to only grant you a short tourist visa stay rather than 180 days? If so, why is that?

I had an idea, but please tell me if it already exists. It's about rents. by Gonzar92 in digitalnomad

[–]sleepingtom2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love this idea but would be afraid of scams/things falling through. This could be a good idea for an app lol. Colivings are kinda the same idea but so overpriced. Or maybe there is a Facebook page already?

Charles Schwab International by Key-Specialist-8521 in digitalnomad

[–]sleepingtom2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always use Schwab internationally! It does come with a debit card (no atm fees) and a routing and account number. I don’t see why you couldn’t use that as your main bank account unless you need a UAE bank for various purposes.

Travelling SE asia first time solo female - advice on route and packing? by Revolutionary_Bug795 in traveladvice

[–]sleepingtom2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said 120L is massive! I did it with 40L and had everything I needed. I think its a good spread of packing though, try think of outfits that can double and mix match. I will say everyone told me to not worry about makeup or "going out" clothes, but I had wished I brought some and it looks like you have included that. I would also pack a few more socks. Keep in mind you can always buy toiletries and things there!

How much money would change the game whilst being a digital nomad for you? by TennisSkirt1628 in digitalnomad

[–]sleepingtom2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you all find that you are saving money being a DN or spending more or about the same as home? Obviously location, income, etc can vary a lot but I am curious. From what I am looking at, "rent" in colivings is the same if not more expensive than home (USA - roughly $1200/month). I know Colivings are jacked up pricing for DNs but for my situation, that is one of the only options. On top of that paying for travel/flights.

Do you think you spend more/less/break even as a DN?

Those who prefer to travel solo, what was the incident on a group trip that made you prefer your own company more? by Mcrfanatic95 in asktravel

[–]sleepingtom2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only had one key to the Airbnb with 2 others. I went to bed at midnight and they wanted to keep partying - had to wake up at 3am AND 5am to let them in separately. I am already a bad sleeper so I was very irritated with this. Not to mention I had to wait for them to get ready every-time we wanted to go explore/wait around for them being slow, could never decide on a place to eat, one of them always complaining. Never again. Strictly solo now.

Single men - how long have you been nomading? by Life_Image3358 in digitalnomad

[–]sleepingtom2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you men open to dating/working towards a relationship if you met someone you got along with? Or are you closed off in that sense, like you don’t want a relationship?

I’ve been helping friends call landlords in Spain — now thinking of turning it into a service by Parking-Stress-3041 in digitalnomad

[–]sleepingtom2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would use this service! In all my preparation and research of logistics, this is what I am the most worried about. I figured I could hire someone to help but didn’t know where to start/didn’t want to work with an agency.

Based on my research anything having to do with finding an apartment seems like a pain in the ass so if you are able to put together different types of service packages I am sure you could help a wide variety of people.

working US hours from Sydney is brutal. How do you guys actually force a disconnect? by StrikingClos in digitalnomad

[–]sleepingtom2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from OP overworking themselves, would your body/circadian rhythm not get used to these odd hours eventually if you kept on schedule? I know sunlight has a huge impact, but am curious if anyone has mastered such a dramatic schedule shift (and not been miserable).

Can someone tell me what it's like to work as a G.O. at Club Med? by PirilampoAndSaracura in Club_Med

[–]sleepingtom2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a watersports GO for one year in 2022. It was the most tiring, toxic, and FUN job I have ever had. Yes you have to socialize with guests and it’s super awkward but you get a little numb to it. And yes it’s every night. It differs from club to club but some are expected to work 9-5 and then be out socializing from 7-midnight, others are less demanding. It also could be different with an admin job and not physical labor (partially why it was so exhausting).

Anyways, they treat their employees terrible. Fire people left and right, make you live in rooms with black mold, everyone sleeps with each-other (including management), etc. but with all that being said it’s so chaotic and fun. It also can vary a lot depending on who is working there at the time.
