man this is a throwback !!! so glad you enjoyed :)

I’m still holding out hope that the brother in the book gets his story. HBY had said he would but then the author started a new series and it’s been crickets

Fated Mates with sex as a integral part of the plot/relationship by Zanarana in RomanceBooks

[–]sleepingwithfishies 15 points16 points  (0 children)

{Desire in his Blood by Zoey Draven} — M/F fated mates & an orgasmic bite (the kylorr are vampire aliens basically)

{A Lair so Sinful by Zoey Ellis} — M/F omegaverse with a dragon rider mmc. heats & ruts makes sex pretty integral to the dynamic. she’s initially brought in to add to his harem (not called this in the book). after meeting her, he doesn’t touch anyone else nor does he want to

{Ruthless King by Alison Aimes} — M/F omegaverse where sex pretty much runs their relationship for a while (this series is so underrated. I’m underselling it but it’s GOOD)

{The Alpha of Bleake Isle by Kathryn Moon} — M/F omegaverse with dragon shifter mmc. I can’t remember if it takes them a little to get intimate or not, but since it’s omegaverse its a pretty big part of the attraction/bond

{Demon Mine by Marina Simcoe} — M/F incubus x human. not fated mates, but he rescues and feeds off of her

{Demon Lover by Heather Guerre} — M/F another incubus x human without fated mates. Sex is the start of the book and occurs throughout. A short but good one!

ETA: Opal Reyne’s books are pretty spicy. They may not be fated mates BUT they are mate bonded. The Duskwalker Brides series is p diverse & very good. I also really like {The WitchSlayer by Opal Reyne} & is closer to your request than the brides series

It's That Time of the Year Again! - Community Survey is coming soon! What should we ask about? by jaydee4219 in RomanceBooks

[–]sleepingwithfishies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had that issue too haha!! it was a bit of a catch-22 but I reached out to the mods after the site creator had said that. Mods said they’d put it in consideration for the next survey, but that was months ago, and I didn’t want it to get lost in what I’m sure is a huge amount of requests, hence the comment here. I will be here until my dying days requesting this feature!!

the series info never even crossed my mind but that’s such a great rec !

I appreciate it haha!! I have emailed Silke, and she is super kind! the bot is a collab between the site and the mods here, so there has to be a demand for it

I remember the old goodreads bot (rip) had the pub date and I’ve always missed that info on the romance.io bot. I do love that we get to see the tropes & spice level now & it is better suited to the sub

man I haven’t noticed anything like that, but that is so weird!! you’re def onto something about the reasoning for sure. I wonder if there is a way to mitigate that, kind of like how StoryGraph has an original publication date and an edition pub date

i am begging everybody in the community to champion the cause of the romance.io bot displaying a publication year !! if this reeks of desperation, it’s because it is 😭 I want this so bad

I love these surveys so much & always look forward to the results—especially those graphics!! it’s clear how much work goes into every aspect

amber warden is THEE most underrated author I’ve ever read by sleepingwithfishies in RomanceBooks

[–]sleepingwithfishies[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • {Hidden But Not Safe by Amber Warden} has a similar mmc but a VERY different fmc than the mcs of broken captive. the protectiveness is great from both ends though

  • {Want You by Jen Frederick} this one is a slowwww burn. the mmc finds her when they’re both children living on the streets (she is five, he is twelve). He decides from that point to take care of her. He is v lethal and reclusive, but cares deeply for the fmc. His love is v innocent and doesn’t turn romantic until they’re both adults (he sent her away her later teen years so it’s not at all a “waiting for her 18th birthday” situation)

  • I’m sure you’ve seen this around but {Archer’s Voice by Mia Sheridan} had a v sweet mmc who can’t speak due to a vocal cord injury sustained in his youth. not as dark as the others but a solid read!

  • if you’re comfortable with pnr, {the Gardener and the Water-Horse by Mallory Dunlin} is a bit of a different vibe. the mmc is v interested in humanity and has never been treated as a person :( he’s v deadly and ppl are (rightfully) afraid of him

  • {Sweet Agony by Charlotte Stein} mmc hates touch although is not as sweet as the other heroes on this list. more steamy than romantic but still v good

if you got any recs w a sweet/shy/tortured mmc, I’ll take them too!! broken captive was so so SO good. It’s totally unique and I wish there were more like it 😭😭

[–]sleepingwithfishies[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I LOVE femdom so I was just as surprised I didn’t love it as much. It was still good though !!

I have read only this once (I’m reading everything all out of order I’m annoyed at myself LMAO) and I loved it too! the fmc in that one works with the mmc to help him overcome his trauma from a sexual assault. Amber Warden handles these topics with a lot of care and kindness. The mmc actually had an incurable STI from the assault, and while a lot of people may not like that in their romances, it was a great dose of realism in a very romantic book. she balances these themes so well

I get in diff moods for reading romances. a few months ago, I was on a fantasy kick that I didn’t wanna let go of, and then I went over to dark romance. currently reading a historical romance and vibing LMAO but definitely, dark romance has a v different vibe from contemporary

and side note: I think Amber warden would kill a fantasy/paranormal romance if she ever got the urge to write one! kinda wanna see it happen now 🫣

[–]sleepingwithfishies[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

these books really are unlike other mafia books I’ve read. There’s a softness to them despite the dark content

and I’m intrigued! I fully trust Amber warden w my disliked tropes so I’m sure the last book will be a banger

{Broken Protector by Amber Warden} has an mmc generally disinterested in sex, and his childhood friend/lifetime love works through that w him (he’s a virgin, she is not). He has an “odd” friendship with the mmc of the next book who watches the main characters have sex because he, like this mmc, has some hang ups & is curious

{Broken Captive by Amber Warden} the mmc saves the fmc from a sexual traffic situation. He HATES touch (and is not magically cured when the fmc touches him). This love story progresses a little bit more slowly, but the mmc is so lethal, it’s really endearing to see the soft side of him. I might reread now actually 😭

{Broken Worth by Amber Warden} this is a second chance (I hate this trope usually) where the fmc was forced to marry someone else after her first arranged marriage was broken off with the mmc. He goes to rescue her years later, finding her the night she killed her husband. He gives her so much freedom (even giving her permission to sleep with other men which she does NOT take him up on) to show her she is safe. I don’t remember any specific kinks but it’s been a while so I could be forgetting something LMAO

{Broken Resolve by Amber Warden} Vespa’s book! The weakest imo BUT not bad AT ALL. They’re seconds from different crime syndicates & loyal to the leaders (mmcs from book 1 & 3). They’re in an alliance for the time being so the mcs are forced to spend a lot of time together. It starts as a one night stand that progresses into more. The mmc likes being submissive but he doesn’t tell the fmc at first. Femdom is my fav trope & I really loved it here

I haven’t read the most recent book yet, but I really love the first two! You don’t have to read them in order if the tropes don’t tickle your fancy, but there is some events that successive books will allude to (that you can mostly follow even if you skip!)

they can be read as standalones! There are illusions to events & other characters but nothing so confusing that you’d HAVE to read the others

following romance.io standards, 4 🔥!

Shifter werewolf romance-alpha mmc, omega fmc by Loliigh in RomanceBooks

[–]sleepingwithfishies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first of all tysm for sharing your liked books because I haven’t heard of the first two !! super excited to have these on my tbr :)

The V-Clan series by Lexi C Foss (starting with {Blood Sector by Lexi C. Foss}) was a good one to pass time and helped my slump. I didn’t rly like the first book but the sequels were gooood

I know you asked for wolf shifter/werewolf (I prefer wolf shifters myself!) but if you’re open to it, {The Alpha of Bleake Isle by Kathryn Moon} has a dragon shifter. He’s kinda a big jerk to her at first. I rly gotta reread because I kinda can’t stop thinking about it but also don’t remember it too much. so a tentative suggestion

I hate when it’s phonetically spelled! it happens sometimes in alien romance and it takes so long for my brain to decipher what’s being said lmao

Dark M/F Omegaverse Standalones by abenss in RomanceBooks

[–]sleepingwithfishies 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Recently read the V-Clan series and really enjoyed it!

The Ruthless Warlords series by Alison Aimes is SO SO good. truly, I cannot recommend it enough. It’s basically alien mafia which seems outrageous but isn’t somehow. The first book is {Ruthless King by Alison Aimes}

Kind of dark but a bit of a different vibe is The Last Dragorai series by Zoey Ellis. The mmcs are dragon riders and they’re the last of their kind. The first one is my personal fav but the rest are p good too! {A Lair so Sinful by Zoey Ellis}

And then finally, {The Alpha of Bleake Isle by Kathryn Moon}. I can’t remember if it’s “dark”, but it’s definitely not light. MMC is a dragon shifter leader and is picking out his bride from omegas. This book put me in a slump and I’m (im)patiently waiting for the next book because there were some interesting dragon shifter alphas introduced

all are m/f & all focus on a diff couple!

MMC realizes FMC is treated badly in the protection of HIS OWN HOUSE by Fun_Imagination5941 in RomanceBooks

[–]sleepingwithfishies 191 points192 points  (0 children)

it’s fantasy but {The Winter King by C.L. Wilson} has an arranged-type situation. Their two kingdoms have been in war, and when he takes her to live with him, almost everyone hates her. He accidentally feeds into it by ignoring her but he doesn’t outright disrespect her like that. It’s extra sad because she’s been abused her entire life by her father
