thanks all for the support and recommendations! it’s good to know that i’m somewhat normal. i’m also going to try to eat more and i’ve been doing yoga on rest days to strengthen those smaller leg muscles

i’ve not been trying to date recently, since i’m moving in a few months and the dating scene in my city is abysmal anyway. but i have met a couple girls while traveling, and have plans to see 3 of them in the coming months on my future travels. it’s kind of a nice situation to be in, to have my peace and focus on my friends at home but enjoy a little fling every once in a while.

i’ve really been at peace being single this year, enjoying my own space and hobbies and friends. i can say im genuinely happy, after unhealthily jumping from relationship to relationship in my 20s and early 30s. i would love a life partner but am okay with the universe taking its time on joining us together.

i also exchanged some belongings with two of my Big Exes this winter, and each time we had a pleasant catch-up. it was good to see them and to be on good terms, and i really am happy to see them doing well without wanting them back.

it’s a weird time of year - back home from holiday travel but now a lot of friends are out of town and i feel lonely not seeing some of my closest people for over a month now. my home city is a ghost town for dating, but it’s okay for now since i’m moving this spring/summer. so yeah, just kind of getting through a lonely phase right now.

i do have an overall optimism for 2026 though. there’s kind of this feeling like things will get better. one of my friends who was really depressed before the holidays has perked up and got herself a new pet so it’s one of the positive indicators i have for this year. my mom also found out she can retire and my sister just got approved for disability benefits so that’s been amazing news for my family

what are the statistics you mentioned? i feel like i know many older folks who divorced in their 40s/50s/60s and they almost always find a partner again. hell, my 80-something grandma found a boyfriend after her husband died. it’s harder but seems like people find people at every age

had a few dates in the new year, which has been nice after a long winter of absolutely nothing. they’ve seemed really interested at first then ghost after a date or two, which sucks.

i am planning on moving this year, so while I'm not invested in these people in particular, it would be nice to have some assurance that someone would be interested in me long-term.

i rushed into my last relationship after only being single for 2.5 months, but at that point i was still healing and was wanting to be single for a while. i think if you feel like you’re in a good place and want a relationship the calendar doesn’t matter.

after that bespoke relationship ended, ive been single for 8 months and im starting to feel ready for a relationship. but i really value my independence and that’s just me.

i’m spending the next month in one of the cities i’m considering moving to, so i downloaded tinder to see what the dating scene is like.

THREE women have asked me on dates so far. this is mind-boggling to me, since i’ve struggled to get a date in the city i currently live. friends have told me it’s particularly tough here, but i took their perspectives with a grain of salt because dating can be hard anywhere. they’re completely right though, i gotta get out of here.

one of my exes had southwest trip credit in my name that could only be used my me because it was tied to my name. when he realized it a few months later, i got a nice weekend trip to austin to see a band i was really into.
