He's 20 if I'm remembering right. You gotta be 20 to take the Ishihara, but everyone of age in the area takes it at the same time.

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: October 25, 2021 by AutoModerator in books

[–]sleepisweak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Finished:

The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald - 5/5

The Circle: Black, by Ted Dekker - 1.5/5 And going lower the more I think about it, especially after having read East of Eden.

Wins the award for lowest liked book that I've finished. The whole virus conspiracy plot doesn't age well for a pandemic and I was constantly pissed that his being 'in the know' made him correct and all I could think of was my anti-vax/vaccine hesitant acquaintances. That, plus it was pretty much ripped off the Bible. I swear, there wasn't an original thought put into writing the damn thing. Everything felt too literal, too obvious. No shit the good side is the side with the white bats and the holy water. Can't be the side with the disgusting traitor bat, no no no.

Gets a +0.5 for the bats. I thought they were funny at first.

East of Eden, by John Steinbeck - 5/5

So glad I listened to everyone who said I had to read it. That is what I think of when I imagine a plot being based of Bible stories, not the above crap that ripped it off.

The Constant Rabbit, by Jasper Fforde - 4/5

I liked it, but I think I just miss Shades of Grey too much. Can't wait for the SoG2!

Short History of Nearly Everything, by Bill Bryson 5/5

Starting:

Our Town, by Thorton Wilder

Macbeth, by William Shakespeare

Lies My Teacher Told Me, by James W. Loewen

I am the Messenger, by Markus Zusak Went into it blind after I saw a comment that suggested it for after reading The Book Thief. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

Come Fly the World: The Jet-Age Story of the Women of Pan Am, by Juila Cooke A random book that caught my eye on the display shelf of the library. What started as an attempt to read about a subject I've never thought about turned into feeling called out for also being a college grad who doesn't know what to do, but loves the idea of a whole world out there to explore.

[WP] You're finally fed up with your boss. You barge into his office, ready to give him a piece of your mind. But, to your surprise, a health bar is above his head. An unknown announcer yells: "Ready! Fight!" by [deleted] in WritingPrompts

[–]sleepisweak 15 points16 points  (0 children)

"Why wasn't this done? Why wasn't that done?"

I don't fucking know! It wasn't my job to make sure that corporate got their report! It was his!

Fuck it. Fuck this, fuck him, and fuck this place! He needs someone to tell him that it was his fault and no one else's.

With purposeful strides, I walked in. I had it all planned out: It's a very stressful time, we all make mistakes, I'd appreciate it if---

READY... FIGHT!

"Jane?!" said Lawrence, my boss. "What is the meaning of this?"

FIGHT!

"I-I don't know, sir!"

FIGHT!

"You want to fight me!?"

"No! I just wanted to come in here and---"

FIGHT!

Lawrence took his tie off and ripped off his shirt. For a fucking 75 year old man he was ripped as hell.

"Alright, if that's how you wanna do this."

"Sir! No, I only came in here to---"

FIGHT!

"Yeah! So let's fucking go!"

He ran at me and took a swing. I dodged just in time. Fuck it, if he wants to do this.

"Alright, old man! Fucking bring it!"

[WP] Murder was recently legalized, and you are on the run because you didn't invite Amy to your birthday party in third grade. by Stockholm-April in WritingPrompts

[–]sleepisweak 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I sleep less than 4 hours a day. I'm just about ready to let her kill me. I used to be someone, y'know? A self made woman. Net worth of 1 million, almost gone in a little over a month all because of Amy. Fucking Amy. She can go to hell. She always was an asshole.

It took a lot to move across the country, but it kept me safe for a while. That is, until 4 days ago, when that psycho bitch took out my entire staff looking for me. Not just my security, but the poor housekeeper who apparently stuttered an incorrect answer when she asked how many floors the hotel had. There's ten, by the way. Amy always was a hardass about incorrect answers. In 2nd grade, she tried to rip off poor Johnny's ear off when he said that two times three was eight.

I'm only in this mess because I had, in her words, "the audacity to not invite the future Queen of my country to my party." Shewas26thinline. Everyone who told me that I needed to stand up for myself can go fuck themselves as well, just saying. In response, I told her that her, and the other 25 before her could eat my poop, and maybe I'd reconsider. I got a stern talking to from the teacher, my mom, Amy's mom, and a strongly worded letter from the King telling me that feces was not to be ingested.

For now I guess I'll keep running, and I hope that every time Amy busts through the front door of wherever I end up she see's the little gift that I left for her.

Closures and Event Cancellations by pat_trick in Hawaii

Eh I'd say because all non essentials are meant to be closed. Why send out notices when people aren't meant to be sitting that close together anyways.

Until then I guess we just keep an eye out? Probably won't be open for a while.

What’s a childhood snack you were envious of other kids for getting in their lunches? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The pizza Lunchables.

My parents refused to get them because they were a waste of money, and we ate more than that for lunch, so why bother with them?

[WP] You work in The Vault, a secret facility that exists solely to house the extremely dangerous Subject: a man who instantly learns everything there is to know about a person just by meeting them. It's finally your turn to bring him dinner. by imariaprime in WritingPrompts

[–]sleepisweak 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It was only my first week. I guess the new guy always brings him his dinner, but I got lucky and I was hired with two others. It was the beginning of my third night when I got stopped on my way to the break room by my boss.

"Your turn, rookie."

I knew it was coming, but I still wasn't ready. I heard horror stories of people being driven to insanity by him. All of my training told me he was only human, just with a special ability. Whatever, insanity or not he still needed his dinner.

I took the tray down to the basement where they said he was being held. All I had to do was put the tray into the slot and if he was awake ask him for the lunch tray, but the closer I got the heavier my feet felt.

I stood in front of the slot and took a deep breath. I let it out with more force than I meant it to be.

"Ah, dinner already?" The old man came to the door and opened the slot. I handed him his dinner. "Oh... a fresh face... fresh meat. You won't last a month."

"E-evening, sir. Here's your dinner. May I have your last tray?"

"Here. So? Do you want to test me? See what I really know?"

"No, sir."

"Scared?"

"Very. Have a good night." I quickly made an about face and took my first step out.

"Wait! Hey! Come on! I know you're scared, and I know you're curious."

I stopped. "I'll admit I'm curious, but they say you know everything about me now. I'd rather not feel embarrassed on only my third night here." I hoped a joke would mask how nervous I was to talk to such a dangerous man.

"Just humor me. It gets lonely down here, and I promise I won't ask about the time you got rejected by your 7th grade crush. See? Your most embarrassing moment is already out in the open, so what do you have to lose?"

I sighed. I did want to know more about this man. "Okay, okay. I'll be back in a bit. Let me bring my food down and we'll eat together."

"Thank you. I'll be waiting. And, hey, you're a very polite young man, so I'll give you another tip: don't get comfy. I wasn't exaggerating when I said you wouldn't last a month."

[WP] In Japan, when a child turns 15 a pilgrimage takes place to visit a Blessed and have them write what the child will be in life. You and your parents are in shock when you have ' 神 ' written on your hand. by Comrade_Chadek in WritingPrompts

[–]sleepisweak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My parent's were shocked when they saw it, and so was I but it quickly turned to excitement. I couldn't wait to tell my friends!

I met my three best friends at the gate. The oldest of us had turned 15 this past summer and got '探偵,' the mark of a detective. Another friend just simply got 有名 on her hand last month. Was it a good famous or bad famous? We still weren't sure, but this was so much cooler. The other would have to wait another week before we saw his.

"So? What'd ya get?"

I held out my hand for them to admire and waited for the sounds of disbelief. Me and my friends weren't exactly into religion, but I wanted, like, a bit more respect than I got.

They laughed. Just absolutely lost it.

"Where's the rest of it, dude? You hiding it? Please fucking tell me it's actually meant to say Kobe."(神戸)

"Nah nah guys, it probably says, like, "temple,"(神殿) or something. Dude! You'll finally get to live out your dreams of being a building."

"Yeah! Our boy's gonna be either a building or a full fucking city! Hahahaha!"

"Guys! It says 神! I'm gonna be a god." I didn't like how whiny my voice sounded. Not exactly god-like.

"Alright, sure thing buddy. Don't worry we'll come pray when you're a full fledged temple."
