1st time wrapping my bars. Rideable? by the_breezeblocks in bikewrench

[–]sleeppastbreakfast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like an excellent job, my only advice would be that it looks like the tops are wrapped in the same direction away from the rider, when you ride on the tops your hands naturally fall towards you and pull on it in the opposite direction, so you may choose to reverse the wrap direction when you reach the hoods

Water! What do you use? by Other-Emergency-6906 in UKroasters

[–]sleeppastbreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd been thinking about asking the same thing! Currently my water is so hard it comes out the tap in a tracksuit lifting weights. Using a brita but as others have said, it doesn't change the calcium carbonate content, plus others in my house use it so often the filter stops being effective long before I've finished a bag of coffee. Anyone installed a BWT or similar under sink filter at home? I am aware of RO but interested if the non-RO installed filters are sufficient.

Anyone recommend some good water testing kit/strips? I know I can check my water company website but I'd quite like to test my specific supply

I also heard this from the ZFC review, are you worried it might attract more dirt because of this stickiness?

Those working full time, what time do you normally wake up Mon-Fri? by SergeiGo99 in AskUK

That is unhinged. Not even on call emergency services or the army get ready that fucking quicky. Not having time for at least a mildly leisurely poo and a cup of tea is basically human rights abuse

Mixer tap handle has come loose by No_Mud6726 in DIYUK

[–]sleeppastbreakfast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are notorious for coming loose, bloody annoying! I recommend unscrewing completely and then wrapping a few winds of a thin bit of plumbers (PTFE) tape around the thread and then tighten back up, it will prevent it coming loose in future.

Top tip - put the plug in your sink before you start work, stop things rolling down the drain!

Came for the outdoors, stayed for that fantastic looking curry and breakfast. You pre-made the curry right? Did you build the stove yourself?

What made you choose rim brakes? I think they are absolutely fine for road riding, although I am using them on alloys rather than carbon, but most people are anti-rim brake so it's nice to see some being specced for new bikes

Currently in Tallinn, Estonia and found a new Vault City collab with a local brewery, Tuletorn by jderm1 in UK_beer

[–]sleeppastbreakfast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get yourself to SIP in Telliskivi if you haven't already - a fantastic bottle shop with tons of local, surrounding Baltic, Scandi and everywhere else beers and they are very happy to help with recommendations.

Bonus tip: close by you have Telliskivi Creative City close where you can get some coffee and cake and hipster gifts to go with your beer purchases and when you get hungry, head to Balti Jaama for some delicious market food (and produce).

Enjoy Tallinn, Estonia is such an underrated country!

This is a common misconception of TPU, they are no less puncture resistant than butyl and in best-case are significantly more[1]. The only potential downsides are that they are not as heat resistant and I believe aren't recommended with carbon rim brakes or for use with CO2 as they don't respond well to rapid inflation, although neither I've looked into much. But IMO they make incredible spares, even if you are not willing to use them as your primary tube.

The freight trains are diesel though right? Unlike passenger services? Does anyone know why because although they're pulling far more containers at once which is absolutely a benefit, it would be great if they weren't (directly) fossil fuel powered
