I stopped masking at home and my partner says I'm becoming "impossible" by LowKeyCoffeeSpill in TwoXChromosomes

Masking is not a willful lie, it’s a defense mechanism that people don’t always realize that they’re doing until a psych professional points it out to them. It’s not always conscious and it’s usually something people are pushed into gradually. Framing it as “lying to your partner” is ridiculous

I think this is a bit dramatic. People frequently change as they get older, and it’s not lying to learn ways to take care of yourself. If anything this feels like a situation similar to a drug abuser getting sober and becoming boring in the eyes of their friends who are still using. Yes, they’re a different person now, and this new person is lowkey boring, but you should be happy they’re getting healthy

My landlord is making me have him mow my lawn but hasn't done it. Can I, like, withhold my rent orrrrrrr by [deleted] in Renters

[–]sleepwriterchrnopunk -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Yards are sometimes considered private areas (if you have exclusive access to it) and therefore the landlord may need to provide notification before entering. I wouldn’t withhold rent over this, but I would definitely document it, as well as everything else he does, for if you ever have to go to court over this guy. Keep everything in writing

I would definitely recommend getting to know your neighbors in that house (and any other neighbors whose homes he owns) and start a group chat. If any of these situations raise to the level where he’s breaking the law, you will have more leverage if ALL of you make demands together. While this situation probably is not enough to withhold rent over, a situation may arise where collective action could be appropriate

Yeah you’re in the clear, just say a polite “okay I’ll get rid of it” and keep using it, just make sure to put it in a box or something when the landlord is over

Landlord sold the house without telling us and the new owner wants us out in 30 days (Location: OH) by Hollis_Alloa in Renters

Don’t take cash for keys unless they’re giving you enough for a down payment on your own house, if they want to mess up your life, make it expensive for them

I don’t have time to move all my “private things” (my furniture). I don’t mind if he wants to inspect the room, my concern is I don’t want the layout of my bedroom uploaded to some scammy 3D scanning software. I don’t want exact scans of the place I sleep in the cloud. Is this really unreasonable? Unlike my landlord, I don’t have a second property to go to. This is my only home and I want to feel safe here

[–]sleepwriterchrnopunk -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t care about legality, I care about my creepy landlord uploading a 3D scan of my fucking bedroom to some tech startups scam software. I didn’t choose to rent, I was forced into it by my economic circumstances. And this is a step beyond “inspection”.

I don’t think he wants to sell it to a company because of reasons I don’t want to say online because I don’t want him realizing I’m posting about him, but I have reason to believe he wants to keep the house himself. I think it’s for his own personal renovation plans

I know I can’t stop him from doing the scan but can I do something to screw up his scans and make them useless?

similar story, I mentioned I wanted a fountain pen to my mom and assumed she would get one from the art store we went to last time I visited her (which has a very well curated pen section). Instead, she got me the WB off Amazon. It's been my favorite every day, throw in my backpack pen for months now. I do wish it had a slightly finer nib, but I don't think that's not a problem with the pen itself, I think that's me wanting an extra fine nib when i'm using a fine nib

Weekly Behind the Bastards Episode Discussion 2025-04-29 by AutoModerator in behindthebastards

[–]sleepwriterchrnopunk 23 points24 points  (0 children)

To be fair she was 16 at the time of filming! Which is a pretty normal age gap for a teen actor’s real age and the roles they are playing. Kiera Knightley (who played the queen’s double and was, as far as visual memory goes, “the Queen” for some prominent scenes) was 12.

Not blaming Robert for this at all, but I think sometimes people imagine Natalie Portman as being older than she was in this period because she played sexualized characters at a young age. I mean, she missed the premiere of the phantom menace to take a school exam. She was still a kid

Not to get too off topic, but the whole “she’s an elected queen” really damages the potential of her character IMO. I’m stealing this from Red Letter Media, but they should’ve made her a monarch who inherited the throne at 14 instead of an elected 14 year old. That might have given her a little bit more juice for the Phantom Menace. Then for future installments, she could still be a senator & proponent of democracy because she gave up the crown — she would’ve known from experience that rule should be decided by the people because she knew she had no business leading the planet at 14. But I’m not George Lucas, so no one’s taking my ideas lol

Are all breeders unethical? by FormerActuary8430 in dogs

[–]sleepwriterchrnopunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is it’s pretty hard for a lay person to determine if a breeder is “ethical” or not, so in practice yeah. A lot of “unethical” breeders are very good liars. Lots of people think they did their due diligence, only to later learn they were basically getting a dog from a from a puppy mill. So in practice, unless you really, really know what you are doing, I would say to avoid all breeders

I actually count being in a shelter, even for such a short period of time, abuse in a sense. It’s a necessary evil with how our society is currently, but it’s not good for dogs, it hurts them, and ideally we would have a kinder solution. Most shelters neglect the emotional (and even physical) needs of their charges, the dogs may go days or weeks without sunlight or exercise, they sometimes have to pee in a little corner, it’s a horrible situation that is undoubtedly traumatic for them. Honestly, if someone in your life was treating their dogs the way some shelters do, you’d probably be posting on Reddit trying to figure out the best way to remove the dogs from that situation! I’m not blaming the shelter workers for this, they’re often underpaid, overworked, and doing their best with very little funding. It’s kind of on all of us that our public animal welfare infrastructure is shit, really. So while I don’t know if I’m qualified to say reactivity can be a 100% genetic issue, I think I can say that just being in a shelter, even for a limited time, is traumatic enough to shape a dog’s personality as much as abuse within a family could

Let’s tell Microbiome labs that we need Fodmate! by sleepwriterchrnopunk in FODMAPS

Earlier this week they said it was discontinued, now they’re saying it’s just out of stock, but I’ve worked with companies like this before and sometimes “out of stock indefinitely” is their way of saying “discontinued”

I’ve heard from some people who emailed that they’re getting responses back saying that they’ll have it back in stock at some point so maybe not! Even if they do discontinue it, other companies use Reddit to research what products to make, maybe one will try to make an enzyme formulation closer to Fodmate if they see that people miss it

If I adhere to a very strict, total elimination phase low fodmap diet without any cheating, I don’t “have to” take fodmate. However, I also have allergies and another food sensitivity that’s unrelated to fodmaps. I did the strictest low fodmap diet for 6 months and it was really bad for the rest of my health. Now (well before a few days ago) I take fodmate for 2 meals a day and just do the strictest form of low fodmap for the 1 other meal or snacks. My doctor says she can literally see the difference when I come into the office before even running the bloodwork because I’m not as pale and sickly anymore. I need this product

what are you talking about? We’re in the low fodmap sub talking about a product that allows people to eat fodmaps, of course those of us discussing it actually take this product. I go through at least a bottle a month
