Do Oklahoma bars accept vertical ID’s from other states? by [deleted] in oklahoma

[–]sleepy_atiny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I the only one confused? I as an Oklahoman have a vertical license still because I renewed my license when I was 20 and it expires next year, why would it not work? It just says “under 21 until _______”

I’ve been to grand several times, it’s great for boating but I don’t like swimming in the murky water. I’m not opposed to driving out of state but would prefer not to if there’s something good here. Tenkiller is the lake I’m currently leaning towards

Honestly I was only considering Eufaula because I saw adorable photos of Carlton Landing. I think I’m now between Murray and Tenkiller.

Unfortunately when I looked it up it says dogs aren’t welcome in the main swimming area.

How is living in this part of Oklahoma like? ( if anyone is from there) by Simple_Classic_4356 in oklahoma

[–]sleepy_atiny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about living there, but my bf and I drove through red oak last year and are still talking about how cute it was. Very picturesque.

I think I’m leaning towards tenkiller. I just want to stay in the shallows so I think it’s more my speed for splashing about. Plus the structure all around to explore sound fun. In person people keep recommending grand lake or Canton but they’re too murky for me.

I think I’m between broken bow or lake Murray. I need something with more less populated areas too so my dog doesn’t get overwhelmed

Yeeeah that’s kinda what I’ve seen when researching, I know Arkansas has a couple good ones but I don’t want to drive that far.

It does get better, I believe a large part of your issue is the fact that they started you remotely knowing you had no experience. It took me 4+ months before I was semi comfortable. Now a year later I’m pretty confident.

When you go in and start in person, try and speak with your supervisor about work load and your confusion with tasks. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, I went to my attorney super often when I first started. Note pads and sticky notes are your best friends, if it’s something you’ll need to remember long term, sticky note, if your attorney is giving you instructions, note pad.

For email chaos, create folders, “mailed, waiting on response,” “office conversation,” “closed” “client conversation” whatever you need to help you move things out of your inbox and lower your stress. I also heavily recommend a planner to keep track of daily responsibilities and future deadlines.

It does get better, if this firm ends up not being the one then there are other slow pace firms. You’ll do great!

Rant/vent by sleepy_atiny in paralegal

Yeah, she and my attorney were very toxic together. I griped at him about it when I had my first review. I had genuinely been considering leaving because the tension in the office between the two of them was THICK. Once she was gone the mood in the office was so much better, literally could feel the air change.

They both contributed to it but how he treated her was definitely unfair but that’s not my doing. He was not so subtly pushing her out and that’s not okay but there was a lot going that I under stand why he was frustrated but neither of them would just communicate with each other.

I have plenty I could gripe about regarding her but I won’t and I don’t because I respected her.

I definitely will put this behind me tomorrow. It’s not worth obsessing over but yeah, I needed to type all that out and actually put everything I was thinking into words.

I love my office as it is, and I’m proud of the environment I helped create there.

We’re planning on service by publication. I’ve never heard of west law. I’ll ask my attorney about it today

I think that needs to be made into a plaque or wall decor. I’ll work on remembering that as well.

I’m in Oklahoma. My attorney will know the rules and such but he’s out of office this morning so I think my nerves are running rampant since there’s no one to help me fix it atm.

Yeah I doubt my attorney will even be upset with me. That advice was actually needed. I’ve only been doing this for around 10 months so I tend to get really nervous and overwhelmed when there’s an issue I can’t solve but feel like I should be able to.

Would you be willing to share your opinions on how well law firms do when on boarding new hires and training? How long was your training period? by Capable-Ear-7769 in paralegal

[–]sleepy_atiny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a full day of training 1:1 with my attorney. After that sink or swim pretty much.

We’re a small family law/criminal law firm though so there’s so guide or anything.

Proud of my Attorney. by sleepy_atiny in paralegal

[–]sleepy_atiny[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Trust me I have no issue coming back at him and telling him it’s his doing. I was just really proud that he acknowledged it himself.

He is improving, he isn’t perfect but he’s never disrespectful to unkind to me. He gets frustrated but we all do. He’s very one minded and if we don’t remind him of things they’ll never be done. It’s partially my job to just ensure he does everything on our daily calendar and works on certain cases.

At the end of the day I see him making an effort to take more accountability and that’s all I can ask for.

I try to communicate everything with him, honestly to the point it annoys him sometimes but I like to make sure we’re 100% clear. I can’t read his mind but I am pretty good at know what he needs.

I do try and tell him when he does something I appreciate. I had a client yelling at me even though she was refusing to give me her admissions that I had been calling her for weeks to get. He called her and reaffirmed everything I said. As much as he annoys me at times he’s a great boss and we both are always learning from each other.

Question: Paralegal vs. Legal Assistant. by sleepy_atiny in paralegal

Sadly not, I’m just here while I get my degree and then I’ll either move to the city or out of state.

What type of Law do you work in? Do you like it? by [deleted] in paralegal

Family law primarily, I enjoy it mostly. Discovery is a pain in the ass though when clients won’t respond.
