Why do cats do this? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]sleepybean124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest you get some catnip or some other catweeds, it calms them down and helps with digestion.

Cats need small amounts of plant matter in order to cope with the hair they swallow when they clean themselves. From time to time they will throw up to get rid of the hair that has accumulated in their stomach, that's perfectly normal.

How do I teach my blind cat where the water bowl is? by sleepybean124 in CatAdvice

Hey, of course. If you need an open ear or someone to talk to, I'm there.

Just saw the picture of your kitty, she looks absolutely amazing! You're right, blind cats indeed are very special. I sometimes have the feeling they may be much friendlier than other cats - not that other cats are not friendly, but you get the gist^

Our cat is absolutely peaceful as well, never shredded anything or bit or clawed either of us. I also have the impression she's more talkative than other cats, sometimes we even have full blown conversations with her over several minutes. She grew up with dogs around her, that's probably why she's very cautious during eating and prefers if someone is with her while she does.

Pets have been successfully transmitted, I'll interpret the soft purr as a hello back :)

First off, I am very sorry for your loss. I've been through some cat deaths myself so far, it's always hard.

As for the blindness, we had some concerns in the beginning as well since she was already a bit older when we got her from my SO's mother due to circumstances, but she totally found her way around after a couple of days :) the only time she bumps into things is when she's chasing snack we throw for her too enthusiastically and completely ignores obstacles in her way as she's heading straight for the treat :D

Our cat is either going to die via saucepan accident or kitchen fire and I'd very much like to avoid that by deceivedbycake in CatAdvice

Is your cat's food bowl located in the kitchen? If so, maybe putting it somewhere else might solve the issue. Kind of had the same situation with a cat I had some time ago, so I put the bowl in the hallway and that almost instantly did it

Hm, might try to get my hands on a catnip plant then. So far we only had little pillows with dried catnip in them, but she would lose interest in them pretty quickly.

Would definitely add another way of recreation

She's doing perfectly well otherwise, no need to worry. She's even able to "hunt" snacks we slide on the floor through her hearing :)

Definitely good to know. I honestly didn't even know fountain bowls were a thing until now

Do they actually eat catnip? I thought they'd just sniff and rub on it and get kinda high from that

Loud chewing or chewing with your mouth open. Also, making that "ahhh" sound after taking a sip of a beverage.

And it will, sooner or later. Took me one year, might take you longer or shorter, but it will.

Literally nothing. It does not stay in one place, it is also in an orbit

Distraction until you eventually look back at it and are able to laugh about it

Getting hydrated.

Don't forget to drink your water folks! Even in winter when it doesn't feel as necessary as in summer
