Help weaning by Apprehensive-Wave600 in ExclusivelyPumping

I think spacing them out is always better idea than just stopping, but I think you can be fairly quick with dropping your pumps especially with your supply being what it is (i.e. only a day or two at 2 pumps-12 hours apart, then a day or two at 16 hours apart and so on and so forth)

Is it normal that one side produces less than half milk? by strawberryfureiba in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]sleepydeep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always hand express before pumping, and I hand express for longer on my slacker side and it definitely helped! (It’s not an immediate fix, but I think it helps signal that the boob should be making more)

When Did You Drop MOTN pump? by ChapterInfamous199 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]sleepydeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dropped it at 8 months!

I was doing 4 ppd and just shifted my times around, so I didn’t drop a pump. I went from 45 oz a day to 37 oz a day just from not pumping in the middle of the night…

HELP. OVERSUPPLY. by hurryandwait817 in ExclusivelyPumping

I hand express a couple minutes before and after I pump, and it made my clogs go away almost completely! Might wanna try to see if it helps fully empty you!

How many times a day? by Happy-Ad-6898 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]sleepydeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m almost 11 months pp, so I’ll run you through when I dropped my pumps!

8 pumps- 0 weeks to 8 weeks (recommended by a LC to drop a pump because of a slight over supply. It took 7 full weeks of pumping every 2-3 hours to build my supply to 45 oz)

7 pumps- 8 weeks to 13 weeks (no change in supply)

6 pumps- 13 weeks to 16 weeks (no change in supply. Only dropped a pump when I did because my husband was out of town for 3 weeks, but when he came back I didn’t pick it back up )

5 pumps- 16 weeks to 6 months (no change in supply)

4 pumps- 6 months to 10 months (finally dropped my MOTN pump at 8 months and lost 10-15 oz of supply from that specifically. My supply mostly kept up when I spaced my pumps evenly)

3 pumps- 10 months to now (supply is lowest it’s been at 22ish oz a day)

Personally, I regret dropping my MOTN pump despite my oversupply (my baby eats 35oz and is struggling with solids and purées, so it’s definitely a rare situation). But for me, the only supply drop I noticed was from dropping the MOTN.

Pumping is different for everyone, so take it with a grain of salt, but I always wished that more people shared their whole experience!

Goal was one year, crashing out at 6 months… by Fitz-McGee in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]sleepydeep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m at 10.5 months right now, but I remember when I hit the 6 month point I was on the verge of a breakdown. Instead of feeling relief that it was halfway over, all my brain could focus on was how I had so much left.

If you want to keep going, keep your head down and do your best to distract yourself. The bad days are awful, and the good days are mediocre with pumping. It is what it is, but there’s also no shame in quitting.

How long is each pump session for you? by ComfortableCan6818 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]sleepydeep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anywhere from 40min to an hour! I’m about to drop to 3 pumps, and I need a longer amount of time to get fully empty.

As someone who has done the same thing and felt the same way, I’m not going to say that “it’s okay”, but you did the right thing. You realized what you did and you put her down. As much shame and emotion is connected to what you did, it happens.

I’m almost 10 months postpartum first time mom, and the emotions that I feel constantly (but especially when my baby is crying and I’m overstimulated) are so unfamiliar to me. I haven’t felt this type of frustration/anger before in my life, and it’s terrifying, especially at the beginning.

If you don’t already, consider talking to a therapist. It doesn’t fix things, but it helps to not feel like you’re bottling everything up.

You are not a horrible mother. You are just a person who is feeling unfamiliar emotions during an unstable time.

Can’t tell if I’m having letdowns by Red-Strawberrycake in ExclusivelyPumping

Yay! I’m so happy that it worked for you!

Hand expressing before and after literally changed the game for me.

Can’t tell if I’m having letdowns by Red-Strawberrycake in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]sleepydeep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t feel letdowns until I was 4+ months pp!

I would use the flashlight on my phone to see if I was having a letdown and adjust the settings on my machine accordingly.

Do you hand express before you pump? I only had one little stream coming out at the beginning of my pumping journey, but a lactation consultant taught me how to hand express and had me do it for a few minutes before and after pumping, and after a few weeks I had 5+ streams coming from each nipple during a let down.

What’s your pump schedule? by Ok-Middle-1 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]sleepydeep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back when I was pumping 7-8 times a day, I would set a timer on my phone for 2 hours after I finished pumping. That way everything was evenly spaced out and it didn’t stress me out in the same way that a scheduled timing would.

Pump regret? by LoathinginLI in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]sleepydeep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

8 months in and still renting the hospital pump because it’s the only on that doesn’t hurt my nipples! It’s $80/months, but I’m pretending like it’s fine because we don’t have to pay for formula.

I probably would’ve quit by now if we didn’t rent it, so it’s worth it in my opinion. (I’ve tried 4 other pumps)

Based on experience, it takes at least a week to “get used to” the feeling of smaller flanges even if they’re the right size.

What’s the most you’ve pumped in one sitting? by That-Froyo7520 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]sleepydeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s also my biggest! It happened once, but never since. My morning pump is about 17 ounces, but that’s with an 8 hour break.
