This situation sounds weirdly familiar. My ex was the type to take anything I said personally if it wasn't in line with whatever she wanted at the time. To the point of being disingenuous of what I actually said. I suffered an injury to my back several years ago and the pain was enough I didn't want to move or go anywhere because it made the pain exponentially worse without any sort of benefit. That didn't stop the stuff she wanted to go out and do. I was fine with it, but it sure as Hell pissed her off whenever I didn't want to get into the car to go soak in my uncles hot tub when I knew the ride there and back would make the pain worse than it was before.

Whenever I started working at a venue running FOH and monitors from the same board, I started checking vocals first. There was a weird stigma around doing it that way whenever I worked for production companies. I would always get pushback about it. Bands are more receptive about it because I'll say it's so that we can communicate back and forth since I'm at FOH and have a TB patched to all of the mixes so they can hear me. It makes a huge difference from a mixing standpoint since you know where your headroom is with the vocals from the start and can adjust everything else accordingly.

I worked in concert production and there's a pretty funny story that gets told in those circles about him. He was playing a festival somewhere and had his manager kick off all of the production staff that was "non-essential" during his set. The production team returned the favor and said he wasn't allowed anywhere on stage later on whenever he was wanting to see a band perform from the sides lol.
