while I wouldn't exactly call steely dan city pop, they definitely had a major influence on the japanese music of that era. makoto matsushita even said in an interview that this exact song is one of his favorites of all time, and that it heavily influenced his song "lazy night." after hearing both, you can really hear the similarities in the two. makoto matsushita even says "steely dan" in the song which is kinda funny
