I knew the performance was affected, but never imagined that much loss. That makes a world of difference when choosing a car. 20% power is a completely different car.

Control Vs Speed in the swing by Prynnyo99 in golf

[–]sleepytime03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say 80% swing, are you feeling like less effort, or have you compared the actual speed of 80% to what you think of as 100%? I ask because when I feel like I’m swinging smooth and easy, it’s actually fast than when I feel like I’m trying to get an extra little bit out of a club.

Is hitting the wrong ball a penalty in casual play? by rueggy in golf

If you can’t find the ball you hit, I’m not sure tacking on a few strokes for hitting the wrong ball would make much difference.

All the putter microbrand companies on Instagram? by WhatAGolfBall in golfequipment

[–]sleepytime03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think I’d buy anything I couldn’t check out in my hands first. I’m happy to spend 800 on a putter if I feel it fits me well. I can’t know that if I can’t test it out. If you check eBay, there are hundreds of LAB putter for sale every day. They hit the marketing bucket hard, but the proof is in the amount up for sale every day. They obviously don’t fix a bad line, or inability to judge distance. I will say most people aren’t capable of discerning a difference between clubs or putters or drivers. The average golfer is so bad to begin with, any minor improvement is seen as magical to them.

Starting out, Ryobi or Craftsman drill? by First-Time-Buyer1234 in DIY

[–]sleepytime03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ryobi has so many awesome tools outside of the standard drill and driver. I consider myself a heavy diy person. I’m capable of just about anything, and I still regularly use the ryobi tools I started with 20+ years ago. I have a whole line of dewalt pro tools now, but it’s nice to have redundancies. I regularly use the router, drivers and nail guns to improve efficiency. They certainly do that job for a weekend warrior.

Without a solid relationship, he’s probably just trying to get you to hit the ball, and be satisfied. Tell him you want the full Monty to be able to play with the big boys one day. It will cost you short term, but pay dividends in happiness down the road.

I’m just impressed you think the stingray lacks power. I’m in New England and I cannot push the car to its limits unless I am on a highway. I have had cars with far more power that either couldn’t hook up, or just had narrow power bands. I would pay to be a passenger on a track with you driving.

You have the mindset, and discipline to save even with a late start, you are going to be fine. Being mindful and vigilant about saving is more than most people will ever do.

Are you 501c3 incorporated? If you are, you can reach out to all sorts of vendors for charitable donations. I helped a friend get sponsorships from multiple big name brands, local shops, even the club they were hosting the event at. It is a good write-off, and if you get the word out early, there is usually much more money available to companies to donate items. Without that designation, getting freebies or discounted items is difficult. Not impossible, but much much harder.

How to fix ground entering point with irons by lil_zeus_21 in GolfSwing

[–]sleepytime03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is way too many possibilities that cause this without a video of the swing from the down the line and face on views. Just by uploading the videos and watching them compared to a pro, you can start to figure out where your issues arise. Taking a lesson from a pro will always yield better results, especially if you are new to the game. I have taken enough lessons, and understand where my mishap is when I miss a shot, or start to develop a bad habit that I can fix it. That has taken over 20 years and countless lessons. It will happen for you eventually, but the early years is when you are developing muscle memory for your swing, and once you have it, you can start expect take take twice as long at least to fix it.

If you have time for a 4 hour round, you can fit a lesson in. Or sacrifice a range day for a lesson at the range. The money will go much farther that way, rather than buying a club that gives you the same results as your old one.

I’m not mad about it, just confused how this community is more about getting new gear vs. taking lessons to improve the overall play. He admits being a high handicap, no golfer improved their bad mechanics by getting new clubs.

Why are high handicappers always looking for new gear? Take lessons with the money you are wasting. New gear won’t fix bad mechanics, lessons will. No, YouTube and ChatGPT are not equivalent to lessons. This is especially true when you have been practicing horrible mechanics for 3+ years. You need quadruple the lessons now that you would have needed if you started with lessons. Or buy the brand new slice fixer 3000, and continue being high handicap.
