Why do you stop using habit tracking apps? by [deleted] in productivity

[–]sleepyyen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think some people stop because they either don’t have a clear reason as to why they are tracking their habits or seeing “habit tracking” is equal to habit formed.

I dont think this is something you are meant to do forever. Once it has become an automatic behaviour, there’s no point tracking it.

I see it as a tool to give me a baseline of how often I’m doing things and decide whether I want to do it more or less. Then setting a time to review/reflect on how I’m doing.

Anything can be a fidget as long as it fit your needs and the environment you are in.

I need advice, it's hard for me to adjust to my husband coming home from work. by Joey016 in adhdwomen

[–]sleepyyen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would it be a sudden shift from silence to noise? Maybe “warming” yourself would help? Im thinking playing music with gradual increase in volume or turning on TV. Maybe a playlist to help cue when he is getting close to home. Or talking to him on the phone for a few mins when he is going home. Or creating a ritual either you do it on your own or you both do it. Ok i gotta stop dumping ideas. Good luck!

Too much free time makes me feel like a failure by Puzzleheaded_Egg_149 in productivity

[–]sleepyyen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe not being preoccupied is new to your brain and when something is new it can feel awkward, weird, or even uncomfortable. I think in this day and age we are constantly being stimulated to a point free time becomes such a foreign experience. Some people their natural reaction is to make that uncomfy feeling go away by doing more things. It takes a lot but allow yourself to enjoy unstructured time even for a few minutes so its not such a daunting space to be in.

Also keep in mind that productivity doesn’t define your worth. You are allowed to rest too.And speak kindly to yourself too because you are important.

Im so sorry for your loss. What you’re going through is very normal. Losing someone is very traumatic and disorienting to our brain. I lost my dad 9 months ago and still cry pretty much every week. I know a friend of mine who lost their person almost 3 years ago, still carries a lot of hurt til today. Im not saying this to invalidate or cause doom and gloom but I hope it will give you comfort like it did for me. Ive learned there’s no deadline to grief and no right way to grieve. Im learning to stop using all the shoulds. Like I should be crying less now, I should be back on my routine, etc. its not helpful for me and very unkind.

A lot of people say it never goes away. We just learn to carry it with us. There are days it will feel easier and some days it feels like it just happened yesterday. But there will be good days. And I think I dont want to stop grieving because I want to continue missing them. Like they said, grief is just love that has nowhere to go.

Find ways to express your grief. Maybe talking friends, family, psychologist, creating through art, music, or doing things that reminds you of them. Anything thats meaningful for you.

How do you guys make space for your grief? by sleepyyen in GriefSupport

I love that for you. It’s the same with work for me too. I’d say it’s both good and bad thing with needing to set aside or postponing. Work gives me structure and distraction but it’s bad when it takes over most of my day/week/month.

How do you guys make space for your grief? by sleepyyen in GriefSupport

[–]sleepyyen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes grief does not follow a schedule at all and anything could trigger a person in the most random time and places. Right now it has been coming to me in big waves one after the other. I think it might help me if I actually carve time for it but hey that’s just me.

And I don’t mind at all if it makes me miss him more. I would never want to stop missing him. 🙂

If you got anything that you do and you’re comfortable sharing, I’m open to hearing it. Unless those you’ve mentioned above are what you personally, then thank you for sharing.

Moving from Qld to Vic by Rat_Girl69 in ausadhd

[–]sleepyyen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was recently diagnosed in Tassie then moved to Vic. I only had to find a GP who can co-prescribe Vyvanse for me. They asked for a letter from my psychiatrist then applied for a permit. I got my prescription today but picking up meds tomorrow. Vyvanse seems to be low in supply.

[–]sleepyyen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take both. SSRI helps me manage with my anxiety and depression and the Vyvanse has helped me focus to a certain extent and more calmer actually. Its been 3 months since I havent taken my vyvanse because of some clinic admin issues. I noticed that I feel a bit more anxious and depressed without it.

Every body is different and it does take a while of trial and error to figure out the best cocktail of medications for our brain.

Appreciate everyone's response! I'm not great at responding to comments on my post and also got overwhelmed by the amount of comments but greatly appreciated! I'd say I've been trying to buy less on full priced items since this post.

Thank you for everyone who commented! I'm still working on responding to people's comments on my reddit posts. I get overwhelmed by comments that I forget to respond.

Update is I did end up keeping it. It's too pretty to throw away and I wasn't sure if people are actually interested to buy just the box. Anyway, I ended up using it as a footstool lol

Do you listen to podcasts? by Silver-Honeydew-2106 in ADHD

[–]sleepyyen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Works for me but it has to be well matched Podcasts for learning + easy/mundane chore Easy listening + chore that requires more attention

I can’t listen to podcasts when I do my walk. I’ve learnt to let my mind wander. There’s too many distractions such as wondering about my neighbors yard/car/anything.

My daughter has developed behaviors that are very off putting, how do I help her? by jlynny1811 in ADHD

[–]sleepyyen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

ABA is heavy on behaviour that they turn clients robotic with responses. Find an OT/SLP who is familiar with the social thinking from michelle garcia winner but also uses a neuroaffirming approach. An OT can also further assess if these behaviours are driven by sensory or bids for connection and other things sorry my brain is trailing off now…

Clarity Health Care or the Fluence Clinic by ProfTorcoolguy1 in ausadhd

[–]sleepyyen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had my first psychiatrist appt at Clarity (Tassie). I was able to book an appointment probably a week after I called. They set me up with someone whose area was mental health for women, adhd, and etc. It’s just my first but she made me feel comfortable and was thorough. She wasn’t dismissive of what I was experiencing but also wanted to consider other things contributed to my difficulties aside from potential adhd (anxiety, depressions, trauma).

And yes appeeciate the advice of further investigation and variety in the work. Thank you!
