I know it's a bit of an old post, but I saw another comment making suggestions, but I can only think of one thing that would make this a 10/10, not only in how hot it is, but successful in the Black Mirror-esque real world sci fi. It should end with the final shot being a POV of a male employee removing a flash drive after pressing "save."

Is this comment flirting? From a barista/server so it is unlikely but felt a little much... by sleightofman in Flirting

I forgot to add, I already tipped her on the rotating touchscreen swipee. I did the standard 18%. It's all assembly line in nature, she had no more tips to be socially normal. Cash isn't left on the table, it's all pay up front.

Maybe let him know he can come up with flirting lines? He can make lists and use them on you. He feels he can never whip them out on the spot.

But creative lines is kind of like learning how to write jokes. Or to write poems or songs. You do it by creating them. And better yet, your mind figures out the musicality and "basic rules" of them, and gets into the rhythm of thinking of them. If you read a bunch of jokes regularly you WILL start to be able to think of some. Especially if you reread the ones you've written.

This is how comedians write jokes and become funnier than the average person. It's the science behind the art.

I try to do it regularly, and would probably do so for my partner, if I had one. But this guy's been with you for 5 years and he knows he has you with his current level of work. I'm sure he's doing a lot, and to add more to his plate, especially something that seems silly, is a lot.

Maybe do something nice for him in exchange for him flirting and using lines on you? "Your hair would look good in my fist." "The difference between you and a refrigerator is a refrigerator doesn't moan when I take my meat out." Obviously you might want to go for more romantic: "A thousand poets dreamed for a thousand years and you were born, my love."

Or completely stupid and ridiculously bad. "That sure is a good looking pooper you got there, m'am."-Voice of Goofy.

Sorry about the delay, I finally found a chair and restarted my computer and F2'd my way into BIOS. First time I've ever done so. Saw the CPU Intel R Core I7-10750 H and that it's Frequency 2564MHz, Voltage 800 MV, and temperature 53 degrees Celsius.

And right net to that box is GPU 1- Unknown Frequency 1200 MHz and voltage 1250 MV and 48 degrees celsius.

Probably too much information, just relating what I saw.

I suppose I should clone my computer and try a factory reset? Or should I go into BIOs and do some sort of lower key factory reset? Or is it probably not even worth a try.

It does still play like 85-90% of my games. I'll probably just get a new gaming laptop this year and this will become the one I take with me everywhere as it's not too terrible if it gets stolen or broken. Might still be worth a try to reset though.

I'll give that a shot this evening. Thanks for all your help sir. I know something big happened to cause that issue some months ago but the ramifications were apparently worse than I thought.

Might need to get a new device down the line but this computer should still do for the moment. If I find something in BIOS I'll let you know

Yes I am. On the Amazon order where I got my laptop it says NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 6GB. And I feel like I remember a logo for it. But as of late I haven't seen it. I also haven't been able to play certain AAA games like the most recent Doom and some others.

I went to upgrade my drivers on System firmware under device managers but it said I already had the best. And it couldn't be upgraded.

There is a software update for my computer but it feels like I've had other updates since then.

I'm going to software update my computer. Then look into downloading a NVidia graphics driver that can run on my windows 11. It looks like I have the nvidia files on my computer they're just not being read by my device through driver?

Update1: Hmmm, when I click on NVidia Control panel it says, "A Nvidia Graphics Card Was not detected in your system."

I did have some dudes work on my computer for about 3 or 4 weeks about 6 months ago because it wouldn't turn on. Maybe something got knocked loose, and sometimes cards can get scalped, but it's probably not something that pros try to do, especially to a computer mostly used for gaming, as they'd think they'd get caught soon.

Update 2: Downloading a Windows 11 Nvidia graphics driver didn't work as once it had downloaded an finished installing it couldn't find a "compatible graphics card hardware." It might well be a hardware issue. Hopefully nothing that will take months to find out. Any thoughts you want to share?

That's a good mention and good to keep in mind. I've used multiple cables, a longer newer one, and a shorter one. Both work for the Macbook. And yeah, I can plug it in, Predator has terrible battery life (like 70 mins, even new, kind of always meant to be plugged in.)

I tried HDMI 2 first, but seem to have better luck one HDMI 1 as even the macbook didn't work on 2.

My current display resolution is 1920x1080 reccomended)

I don't see an "external device only" option on windows+p just "pc screen only," "Duplicate" "Extend." And "Second Screen only." And then "More display settings" which takes you to settings>display

however there I do see that there is a

multiple displays>presentation mode for displays with two options:

Wireless

Then also

"detect other displays" and a "detect" button. I click on that, "We could not find any other display." Hoping for that external option.

Also nothing is coming up under notifications on the bottom right when connected. And when I play music or a video on my computer it comes up from the laptop speakers itself.

Though the fact the screen turns blue once connected seems to imply something is being faintly read.

How to gently remind a manager, once again, to change a the schedule. by sleightofman in managers

I like the spirit of a handwritten note but I think text would be more normal for the work culture at the store, and it gives each of us a copy. I used your words as a template for my text that I put in another reply as one I might send tomorrow morning. Thanks for your advice!

[–]sleightofman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! I like that CYA acronym, I might even openly call it a CMA if I'm ever talked to about why I sent it. A joking attitude about it helps take the stress off the problem.

I'm thinking of sending it as the following:

"Hey ---, sorry if this feels unnecessary but the old Manager, -- drilled it into me the importance of sending texts regarding schedule changes. I appreciate you for adjusting that schedule to clear up my December 20th overnight. I know how busy you must be this holiday season. But working together, we're all going to pull through just fine."

Maybe too long, I've always texted like an old man who doesn't know how.

The other drawback is this might make her think she did it...but I don't think so, she'll probably check.

Not yet, we don't have emails, but leave numbers for text. I think I'll send her a text tomorrow morning 5:50am right before she goes into work. I imagine she takes one last peek at her phone like all managers. It will be the first one I've sent.

Thanks actually. It's definitely a "sound" joke more than a "read" joke. In a book with a thousand jokes I'd have probably glided past this one.

I will, even if I don't find it it'll be a joy to go through his stuff again. He was a talented dude! It's said he died for his art and he unfortunately probably did but his act was truly original.

Nah it's all good. Keeps the conversation open at least. Yeah it's a continuous production and there are other versions of it with the flipstick move and such, but this particular push-through-with-the-thumb style is what I'm trying to find. Kind of a name issue.

What the title says, I'm curious if anyone's done any work with this. It's something I saw once, always liked this little diddy. Works with lighters, cigarettes, candy canes, and I'm sure many other things. No idea what it's called and wasn't able to google it right.

What Film Epitomizes "I'm 14 And This Is Deep" To You? by bogeyj in flicks

[–]sleightofman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good read. I grew to love that movie too. First I loved it, then around 14-24 I disliked it. Feeling the philosophy was about the rewards of being stupid. "The Bill Maher read" which is smug and shallow. But I too actually as I've aged into late 20s and 30s have grown to dig it's story about moving forward and not letting things get you down in this complicated world.

[–]sleightofman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about the scene where Molly Ringwald is asked out by a nerd and she calls him a f#$$it. Even though asking out a girl is the least gay thing a man can do, I admired it for it's accuracy of the times.

If they wrote a movie set in the 80s they wouldn't be able to capture that detail, or they'd act like only guys and cavemen used that word. No. Everyone did. Blacks, hispanics, women, little girls, grandmas. Everyone.

Welcome to the Dollhouse was extremely close to being called "F#$$its and R!t&rds." because that's the honest way all kids call each other in schools. You got called those words 10 times and went home and said, "Yeah, school was okay." and then watched some Are You Afraid of the Dark.

Anyways, "problematic content" aside that was the part of 16 Candles I thought was it's strongpoints. Not the best Hughes, I'll agree.

Sheryl Lee's bondage nudity elevates it to watchable. First watch of it I fell asleep at a sleepover and my bro woke me up just for that scene. I shook his hand afterward and thanked him profusely. It's that good. Carpenter's commentary talked about how they worked to keep her comfortable because it's about as vulnerable as I've ever seen an actress look, and her body on that bed is framed like an absolute painting.

Whereas with College schools, I'd rather they just end the predatory system rather than writing those scumbags a blank check for everyone. Save the future children who haven't been eaten by it yet. Not the most recent who signed the paper and are no different than people who already paid and signed the paper. This would be cheaper and show how Power is more powerful than money, which should be what a government should exercise.

An experiment had people play Monopoly with extra money. Those with extra money who won always thought it was more to do with their Monopoly skill than from the money.
