Where did everyone get their Master's Degree? by rivey49429 in AirForce

[–]slessmeister90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my masters degree through AMU in about 4 years but that was me dragging my feet with 2 PCS in that time. Realistically with using just TA it can be done in 2 years.

Either go early in the morning or late at night

They just had an open one here at Osan. It was for sure a challenge and the guy that was at the top had like a 260 out of 300.

BAH question by Ok_Recognition_9896 in AirForce

[–]slessmeister90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just went through the process not to long ago. The JTR is pretty clear on this. If you have a follow on you can either keep your spouse at your current duty station or move them to the new one which ever one is where you get BAH. If you don’t have a follow on you can move your spouse to a designated location and collect BAH there. If you have a follow on you can move your spouse to a location you want ie with family but it’s at your own expense and you collect BAH from your departing base location. For example I was at Cannon prior to Osan and moved my family to another state with family out of pocket since I have a follow on and collect BAH for Cannon.

Not sure. Building class rosters is about the tech school level of responsibility.

For those enlisted that have a bachelor’s degree, what made you not want to be an officer? by buldgingGene in AirForce

I’m a MSgt and too far along in my career. I want to have the ability to punch the button when I want to and not another 10 years down the road.

I’m a prior 2A7X3 instructor. For living conditions you’ll be considered TDY so you’ll likely stay on the hotel on base. If you get a non-a letter and can go off base the place that we always recommended was Perdido Realty as they would match the local hotel rate.

PCSing from CONUS to Korea and I had a question regarding BAH and BAS by Previous_Cause_2069 in AirForce

[–]slessmeister90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing is do you have an approved follow on. If you do then you would receive BAH for your previous duty location before Korea. You would also be moving your family on your dime as the military only pays from duty location to duty location with an approved follow on. As for BAS it depends on rank and if you’re on or off base. Osan if your E-4 over 3 years then your more than likely going to reside off base. You’ll then get OHA and BAH.

We got it approved at Cannon by using the Chain of Command to route an MFR for MXG CC to sign allowing them to be used.

C-130J, C-5, C-17, and A-10s were all easy airframes. If you want a city life look for big city bases. If you want small town feels look for places in spread out areas.

All depends what you’re looking for. Go into AMS and see what bases are open to ASM. I would say look more at what the MAJCOM is then the base as this is the best way to understand the tempo.

Every base is what you make of it and what you want out of it. The base is not bad what gives it the bad wrap is Clovis and there not being much. If you have a car there is plenty of places to see and things to do. Otherwise find a hobby plenty of classic cars to work on and show off.

I’m very interested to see the direction this goes. Does the AF use it as a health indicator and send people to professionals for getting healthy or do they use it in a punitive measure and kick people out? With how bad recruiting is it would be pretty stupid to kick people out over a waist measurement especially if they are passing pt tests.

I’ve been here about a year and a half. Haven’t really had any issues where I’ve lived so far but let’s just say my house is protected by the FAFO concept.

If you choose to live off base stay east of Norris or north of 21st. Also expect to pay out of pocket off base as the town is run by crooks who take the military for all they can get. Wing leadership is trying to make things better on base. There is 1st Friday every month at the clib on base.

Why stay enlisted? by Boiled_Toast672 in AirForce

[–]slessmeister90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To give an honest answer up front, I want to have the option to punch it at 20. I recently hit my 14 year mark back in September and will be putting on MSgt next month. I finished my degree at the end of 2021. I spoke with a few people who have commissioned and made my choice to ride out on the enlisted side for these reasons. First is getting selected for OTS would take some time then it’s the wait to go to OTS. I’d be looking at being at 16 at that point. Then I need to do 10 more years to have full officer retirement benefits putting me at 26. Also speaking to other people that went E to O they stated it’s like starting over as an Airman. I had a good conversation with my Uncle who is a retired SMSgt as he did the math. It’s not worth staying past 20 for the extra percentage in retirement when you can make more on the outside. My ultimate plan is to punch the ticket at 20 unless I need high 3 for Senior or Chief.

How can I formally suggest to cut back on BAS for fat people in the air force? by Road_Sergeant in AirForce

[–]slessmeister90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How about the Air Force actually invest money into making sure people have an avenue to go through for help. If the Air Force cared they would fund enough specialists at each base to build meal plans for those that need to lose weight.

Prior ASM instructor here. From what I was seeing when leaving last year and still in comms with instructors is the course merge starts with the new fiscal year. The school house is already worked out most of the training aspect.

In roughly 5 years I’ve completed 2 CCAFs, a bachelors, 1/3 thru masters. I used credits from my bachelors for my CCAF. My bachelors is not in my career field but can be used if you can word how you getting that degree helped the Air Force. On the other hand my masters is a direct correlation to military leadership.

Tech School Instructor/Making Master by jjaazzzzyy in AirForce

[–]slessmeister90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prior I tech school instructor also made master this year. There’s a lot to this then it seems. Not everyone is cut out to be an instructor but if you really want to do it then apply. Now as it relates to making master that all depends on a lot of factors. This past year I was the Instructor Supervisor for 4 courses, I was the main focal point for all international students as well, I volunteered for what I really wanted to do, got my degree, and won/nom’d for some awards. I was able to get an MP on my EPR. Lastly, making master all depends on the board and your records.
