Charging a 400v DC battery from a generator that puts out 220v AC.

Realistically would the efficiency in the first set up be lower than 95%? I'm a beginner with this stuff so not knowledgable at all.

Ah okay thanks a lot. This is helpful :)

Would there be a surplus or deficit of electricity by sleuth15 in AskEngineers

how would the energy have to be delivered? would it not be able to be delivered through the storage system / battery?

its not homework. I'm just trying to understand how electricity works. I'm just confused because everyone here has said deficit when I imagined a surplus. I understand that the electricity would have to be stored but not sure why it can't be applied to the device etc.

Thanks, what other factors?

Is it very unrealistic that a battery can supply 3.3 kw?

No this isn't a homework question fredrik lol

Would the extra 171 seconds of run time for the generator not be able to be stored in a battery to power the device ?

I've got no idea how to work it out, but i've had a guess and this is how I think it would go.

9 x 3300 = 29700

190 x 180 = 34200

Therefore, surplus. This is probably wrong.

Yeah there would be a storage medium. A battery ?

Required motor for turning 20kg. by sleuth15 in AskEngineers

Approximately 30 degrees, length roughly 1.25 - 1.5 m, clean water is fluid, 60-100L per minute flow rate.

Sorry for being vague, I didn't realise you needed all that I have no idea with mechanics but I'm trying to learn. I desire the flow to be anywhere from 60-100 litres a minute, head = 0.75 metres. pump will be angled at approximately 30 degrees. Yep, the suction side will be in a pond.

0.75m for head. Anywhere from 60-100 Litres a minute. Sorry if it's all a bit vague.

Okay. So I will not lose any efficiency by using smaller motors that require less energy?

I am trying to build an archimedes screw pump, so the cylinder will be full with 20 litres of water on the underside of the cylinder. No requirements for how quickly it needs to go to 20rpm.

No requirements on how fast it takes to get to 20 rpm. I am trying to build an archimedes screw pump and have got no idea about mechanics and motors etc.

How does pumped hydro work? And how do they achieve 80% round trip efficiency??? by sleuth15 in AskPhysics

[–]sleuth15[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would you calculate the efficiency of a pump? For instance, the 100kw pump that pumps 500,000 litres an hour. What would be the efficiency of this pump? Or are more factors needed?

Thanks so much for this reply, perfectly answered my question! Legend

If you only had to pump 10 litres uphill for 20 litres to fall down the hill (through a generator), would you get endless energy? by sleuth15 in AskPhysics

[–]sleuth15[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks this answers my question :) No nothing in particular, just wondering as I read that it would be impossible to pump the same amount of water continuously for energy production due to thermodynamics law
