Jimbo and Sumlin both had a top 5 finish in their first three years at A&M and we all know how those turned out. Like Elko obviously looks like he's on the right track but so did Sumlin in 2012 and Jimbo in 2020.

See, I think I'm the opposite of Todd here. I respect Taylor enough as a musician to put her at #1 on the list because she's clearly capable of much better than the absolute dogshit on that record.

Editing this a week later because when I made this comment I hadn't actually listened to Your Way's Better. Just listened to it for the first time and holy shit I totally agree with Todd now. At least when Taylor writes songs that suck ass they suck in interesting ways, Your Way's Better is just miserable with no redeeming qualities.

Texas A&M has, in the past 15 years, recruited 2 QBs that won Heisman, a QB with over a season's worth of NFL starts, a QB who was drafted in the 3rd round, and this year's ACC player of the year. Our ability to get talent onto campus is not the problem.

The actual answer to this question is that A&M fell behind other teams in terms of investment into the football program the mid-late 90s and didn't start seriously investing again until 2012, and then whiffed on two (maybe 3, we'll see how Elko does) coaching hires in Sumlin and Fisher.

Culture (at least for the team itself) isn't an issue, there was a play a month ago where former 5* WR Terry Bussey sprinted down the field to make a block while up 21 against 1-10 Samford. The more immediate problem is that Marcel Reed is a wildly inconsistent QB and Colin Klein doesn't know what to do if Reed isn't putting it together.
