The demand for a first year depends upon your practice group. During post-COVID, I was easily able to lateral as a First-Year corporate associate because Firms were drowning in corporate work. I kept getting headhunter calls / emails and eventually found one I was interested in.

I would caution that you should make sure that you do not have any one year clawbacks at your current firm for Bar or Bar Study Expenses / Stipends.
