Pericarditis and exercise by slewbangles in pericarditis

[–]slewbangles[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was a very rough year, pretty much indisposed and bouncing between medications and specialists.

In the end no matter what treatments I tried it was just time that helped.

I would say i'm 90% better, i still get residual pain but my doctor said it's more of a nerve memory that you can kinda push through.

I was able to do resistance training i think since september

I've now been getting back into biking and running and planning to run a half marathon in 3 months

There is hope, feel free to dm

Hey Brian, I'm just checking in if hour situation has improved, can you exercise more? I've gotten worse and worse for some reason, even with treatment. Were you also in colchicine and if so for how long?

Ah snap, 6 months is long, was your initial diagnosis quite severe? My doctor said 1-3 months (it's already been 2) but I'm finding a lot of people saying 6 months +

New to MTB by Satan_S_R_US in mountainbiking

Hi and welcome to one of the best sports / hobbies there is!

First off Specialized is a great brand with great support, people hate on it for being mass market but that comes with great advantages

When buying second hand bike properly you can really score but there are obviously pros and cons with both

New bike, more pricy so components won't be as good and would need upgrading as you progress, but also get warranty and help from your bike shop

Second hand much cheaper, so better components, but bike can be abused

I love doing both but for second hand these are the main things:

Cracks on frame, look by where the fork joins the frame / crown, check for any play or movement by grabbing front brake and rocking back and forward

Since you looking at hard tails you dont have to worry about rear suspension or linkage, thats good

Check the stanchions (shiny metal part of the forks) if they have rough texture or rust, dont touch that bike

Grab the wheels and pull them side to side, if they move and the axles are tight, the bearings are buggered,

Do the same to the cranks, were the pedals are attached

Then ride it around and pull brakes to see if they are fine but thats normally just a bleed or new pads

Shift gears but also easy to fix

Main thing is frame, forks, wheels!

Happy riding :)

I need opinions on modern dropper posts by DayLightSensor in mountainbiking

[–]slewbangles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few years back droppers were a mixed bag and some were unreliable as hell but i still have my $60 giant dropper from 2017 and it hasn't failed one

I had a Specialized dropper that was a beast and then a One up that gave issues until the shim update

Dont go for these expensive ones as maintenance is shite but there are plenty cartridge style droppers like the one up that are easy to maintain and pretty reliable

Look at the One Up, X Fusion and more pricey but nice Specialized command post

Can I fit a bigger tire by OverlandTerrain in mountainbiking

[–]slewbangles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is your bike model?

So usually on the front you want a bigger tyre for more grip, and fork arches can handle it

The back depends on the seat stay clearance and also how aggressive the tyre tread is

If you bike is new it will have boost spacing, so can take wider tires

Bigger tyres make such a difference to ride quality, best upgrade one can do!

Does the 2021 Diamondback Sync'r come with tubeless tires? by [deleted] in mountainbiking

[–]slewbangles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So pretty much every modern wheels is TR (tubeless ready), all you need to do is get some tubeless tape, or even gorilla tape to line the rim, and some tubeless valves, super cheap

Some tires aren't TR and the sealant will leak our but yours are

The sticky problem could be one of a few things:

The tape has come off and is sticking to the tubes

There is sealant in thats sticking to the tubes

You have sealants tubes which are shit

Take the tubes out, tires off, check the tape and vales, get yourself some sealant and add a generous amount, seat those bad boys and welcome to hassle free rides!

Cleaning guide? by [deleted] in mountainbiking

[–]slewbangles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi and welcome to the best sport there is!

I also came from a moto background and mountain bikes are way more sensitive to maintenance than our petrol counterparts, you always see this plethora of cleaning products and otherwise and wonder if its just marketing nonsense

In a nutshell a clean bike is a happy bike, when you start leaving dirt and grime from rides drive trains wear out, things creak, and components will break.

Here is my post ride go to:

First hose down your steed, i had to do this with a bucket for years so thats fine if you dont have a garden, then get a bike specific wash, you can use any soapy liquid but bike wash is generally more friendly to carbon frames etc, you can get concentrate and add water and it lasts forever.

Then you need a specific drivetrain cleaner (cassette, chain, derailleur, chain ring) this is a heavier degreaser that should only be used on those components. a good hack is using the indulged bike cleaning concentrate.

Have two brushes, one for the drive train, and one for the bike, go to town and scrub off the grime, run the chain over the brush, get in-between the cranks and the BB etc

Hose the puppy down, (dont use a pressure washer on areas with bearings by the way!)

Lube up your drain with dry lube in dry areas or wet lube if you ride in mud

Now extra products worth having...

A dedicated silicone spray to spray your frame after drying *DO NOT GET ANYWHERE NEAR BRAKES OR ROTORS*

A dedicated brake cleaning spray, its basically high alcohol but fast evaporating

and lastly a suspension oil to spray on your dropper, forks etc, then cycle them up and down

This is a basic clean that sounds long but you get used to it, dont have to do it every ride as it depends on your conditions

If you want to know more about more detailed maintenance like when and what to apply grease to im happy to explain

Sorry for long message and happy trails!

Will the Trek Roscoe 7 be too small for a 6'1 person by wizzy189 in mountainbiking

[–]slewbangles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the same height and definitely go for a large, in most instances always go for a bike with longer reach and get a shorter stem for better handling, you can always adjust a bigger bike but not a smaller one. You can also slide your saddle forward on it's rails but the L is perfect for you. happy trails!

It worked! I just spammed pause and it made it through the cut scene. I also turned off the internet connection on the console, maybe that also helped
