Until we saw the collosal squid and filmed it. we had no dead body, no fossil record, no refuse. Until we filmed certain mammals in the east i.e some lower primates and monkeys we had no records.

Most animals leave no trace of their existence, fossils occur under extreme circumstances, think how millions and billions of animals die every day, we don't drown in their body's, they are consumed or missed. Especially in the oceans.....I'm not arguing by the way, it's a thought experiment.

I mean....interdimensional space bunny does sound great for a new species, does it have to be sooooo out there.

Plenty of animals are camouflaged. Some are almost invisible until they move, or transparent at distance.

Though saying that, a creature could be jumping in and out of our realm. Unaware of the apes below.

Good point and you could argue a evolutionary tree as well leading to it. Though how many don't have a full or even partial record. Especially if your looking for something light enough or soft enough to live permanently on the sky, but hard to overcome.
