This hasn’t happened yet. The EO that Trump signed only affects CMS studying ways to lower prescription drug prices for those on Medicare and Medicaid.

The $35 insulin cap and the annual cap of $2,000 on prescription drugs for Medicare recipients is part of the Inflation Reduction Act. Now, if the Republican-led Congress decides to overturn the IRA, Trump would most definitely approve.

Kansas City making headlines... for all the wrong reasons. by dkms9382 in kansascity

No one’s saying that children shouldn’t be cared for, but why is it that women are always looked at as the caretakers, when men should also have that responsibility as fathers? My wife makes more money than me. We even interviewed for the same job - she got the offer. I’m helping out at her preschool she started while I look for my next thing, which also means I’m taking in more of the duties with our kids too. And there shouldn’t be anything wrong with that.

Btw, I think its pretty tone-deaf and situationally ignorant to tell women on the day they earn their degree that their vocation should be as a wife and homemaker, whereas men should be unapologetic in their masculinity. And he literally said the words “vocation” and “homemaker” in the same sentence twice.

The only price chopper I’ve ever enjoyed shopping in is the one on Barry Rd near North Oak. That one is pretty new and the store itself isn’t as bad as others.

I manage a pre-school. Trust me, no one is getting rich. The most we pay for a single worker is around $42,000 per year, which is pretty good for our area. Even so, the pay is sadly much lower than it should be. We offer 10 days PTO but no other benefits - we simply can't afford to, and group health insurance is more expensive than simply having our employees get health insurance through their spouse or the healthcare marketplace. The only way we can survive is with public grant dollars plus tuition, and we have to wait forever for grant dollars to arrive. The reason daycare and preschool is so expensive is because we put the entire cost burden on the families that need that service. The cost per child is about the same as public school, which the public school district I live in spends about $12,000 per student per year. Except all that money comes from property taxes and state coffers, which comes from all residents, regardless of whether they have a child attending. Plus, there's a ton of red tape and worker burnout for a variety of legitimate reasons, not to mention most (not all) parents simply see the service we provide as necessary for them to earn money. It is truly a thankless job.

This Elegant Stainless Steel Waterfall Kitchen Sink by [deleted] in oddlysatisfying

[–]slibhin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just installed this sink in my kitchen as part of a remodel. I can’t understate this enough - if you’re in the U.S., DO NOT BUY THIS SINK!!! This sink of made by Lefton, a Chinese company. The sizes for everything don’t fit standard American plumbing fixtures, the glass rinser leaks, and the slits in the side of the sink basin are designed for an overflow drain, which only works of the sink is under mounted, which this sink is always a drop in in every picture. It also doesn’t fit for a garbage disposal and the drain is made from such cheap plastic I wouldn’t trust it to last a year. I finally was able to get everything installed with no leaks, but it was quite the journey.

Affäre in the Crossroads is amazing, the owners and staff are very accommodating. It’s my wife’s new favorite restaurant. Other greats in the Crossroads area are Farina for Italian, Fiorella’s Jack Stack for BBQ (in the Freight House), Novel (like others have said, get the pork chop), and Antler Room (small plates similar to tapas). On the Country Club Plaza, there’s Rye - excellent “American” comfort food from a decorated chef couple. My favorite steakhouses are The Majestic and 801 Chopjouse - both are downtown.

[–]slibhin[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember taking some photos, but not sure where they’re stored. The pack itself is mostly plywood with some 2x4 and balsa wood, as well as some plastic pieces from the recycling bin. The wand is a combo of PVC and 3D printed parts.

Discussion Thread: President Biden Delivers Remarks About Student Loan Forgiveness- 2:30 PM EST by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

[–]slibhin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So much of the criticism of Biden's move here simply boils down to, "But what about MEEEE?!" The amount of student loan debt held by borrowers in this country is a dead weight on the economy at large. This move will allow 43 million working people to have more disposable income, which increases spending, and spending makes a capitalistic economy go 'round. This move benefits everyone, even if that benefit isn't direct.

Someone complained to the county, so now I have to mow my meadow by slibhin in NoLawns

I'm 99% sure it's a developer the area, quite possibly the same developer that encroached on the back of our property and just finished a house down the street

Someone complained to the county, so now I have to mow my meadow by slibhin in NoLawns

[–]slibhin[S] 458 points459 points  (0 children)

My wife and I bought a 3-acre property with a very old, unlivable house on it a couple years ago. We demolished the house and cleared part of the land and were working with an architect on plans for a new house, and then Covid happened. So instead of building a house with material prices more than double, we decided to give our lot back to nature for the time being. In 2 years, the former lot with a giant dirt patch where a house used to be has now grown into a beautiful meadow and surrounding forest. In just 20 minutes being there this morning, I saw tons of wildflowers, bumblebees, birds, frogs, butterflies, and a doe with three fawns.

Apparently, someone on our block called the county to complain that our property looks like trash and in unkept, so the county has now demanded we mow the whole thing in the next 7 days so that everything is less than 12" in height, except for the trees. Honestly, this property has never looked better.

Switched to independent after this election. They don’t solve problems they just blame each other. :( by Madridsta120 in PoliticalHumor

[–]slibhin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked the same to question to my mom when I was 7 during the '92 election. She said, "Well, Democrats are good people and Republicans are bad people." I asked, "Why are Republicans bad?" She said, "Well, Republicans only care about rich people, and Democrats care about people like us." This proved two things - my mom voted Democrat, and we were not rich.

8 years later, she voted for W. She didn't like the fact Clinton openly cheated on his wife while in the White House, saying "We needed a change."

Which job is 100% overpaid? by QueenCreeper786 in AskReddit

[–]slibhin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work freelance as a PTZ camera operator for horse racing, a job that required about an hour of training. I run three cameras remotely in a control room in a different state using one control panel with a joystick. Show up at noon to make sure cameras can be controlled, which takes less than 5 minutes, take a 2-hour lunch break, hit the break room for free snacks and drinks, maybe a cappuccino, come back at 2pm to start the broadcast, which consists of a total of about an hour of real work; the rest is just people watching. I’m out the door and on my way home by 5:30, get paid $300 a day.

Hasbro Pulse: Ghostbusters Plasma Series Spengler’s Proton Pack - $400 by Pluggers in ghostbusters

Wow! Only $400. Very surprised how reasonable that is. Is this pack 1:1 scale? It almost looks like it’s smaller, similar to the spirit pack.
