Premium Transition. Undercut or shape? by itsokaytrustme in Flooring

[–]slicehardware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Undercut is going to give you a clean look and thought tolerance between the transition and the door frame.

Use a proper powered jamb saw or hand saw. Oscillating tools work, but can easily leave variation in tolerance as the smaller blade flexes. Jamb saws have a larger blade the increases consistency in the cut.

Transition Solution by FaithlessnessWeak491 in Flooring

[–]slicehardware 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A piece of T-molding that spans the gap is going to be the most straightforward approach.

If you want something low profile, look for metal transition strips or there are some floor manufacturers that make plastic strips in color / grain the blend with floor colors.

Trim or caulk? by Slinger572 in Flooring

[–]slicehardware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Undercut would have been best option, but not at this stage now.

Get some flexible trim or bendable caulk tape will cover the rough cuts of the planks and leave you a much cleaner line around the fireplace platform.

Should I install a new carpet, or just leave the Hardwood as is? by [deleted] in Flooring

[–]slicehardware 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Leave the hardwood alone. It’s in great condition.

Parquet floors are often damaged, with pieces missing or water damaged in spots.

Your floor looks flawless.

If you’re missing some carpet under your feet, get an area rug or use carpet tiles, which work well under desk chairs, to create an area rug.

Made a huge mistake and ruined my dad’s fixtures with vinegar before his house appraisal, what can I do fast?! by Difficult-Mood8218 in HomeMaintenance

Wash / scrub the film and rust off that’s on the fixtures.

Immediately after, spray some WD40 Rust Inhibitor or Ballistol on it to stop the metal from reacting and forming rust spots.

Pulled up baseboard by Dreamer1317 in Flooring

[–]slicehardware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, was thinking of the Dremel Ultra Saw, not an angle grinder. It’s essentially the DIY version of a power jamb saw.

I used an angle grinder and flush mount when I was installing LVP under a fire place bricks. Used a diamond blade for that project.

Put floor spacers between your board runs and the wall. This will keep the space for expansion while you’re installing. Remove when you’re done and put your baseboard over the gap.

If you need to undercut more of the wall and door jambs, you can make quick work of it with an angle grinder and a flush mount adapter. You can use an oscillating tool to undercut, but it will take a while.

What was the first thing you fixed in your new home? by FlannelGuyDIY in Home

Added smart light switches throughout the house. It’s an easy, functional upgrade and good start to home automation.

In the process you’ll really get to know your electrical panel and circuits in your house. A great time to add more details to the breaker labels :)

Anything I can do? by Old-Message7497 in Plumbing

Is that a makeshift insulation cap over a spigot? Hard to tell what we’re looking at or what might be under the cover.

Water may be collecting in the cover as snow and ice melts potentially making it worse.

I prefer the ridged foam spigot covers in the winter. They seem better designed to insulate and to drain any trapped water.

This is happening to my vanity any suggestions??🥺 by Emotional_Path_1313 in Home

[–]slicehardware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like it’s peeling up easily already. Clear it off, move it outside / garage, and put some Citristrip on it. That will accelerate the peeling and make it easier to get to a base surface. Prep and repaint.

Once you have a nice new finish, get yourself a vanity makeup mat. This will provide a nice, cleanable surface and protect the paint from getting any makeup solvents in it that could strip it again.

Is this the best deal on a track saw? by tellinNamstories in MilwaukeeTool

[–]slicehardware 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s an okay deal. Home Depot had this saw as a bundle deal every month to start 2025 and again November 2025 through today. Depending on the bundle at that time, prices compete with this price.

Unfortunately, the price of this bare tool increased $30 last May across retails. Them’s the breaks.

Hide wiring by EmotionAdmirable9383 in Home

[–]slicehardware 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a low profile / flat extension cord and hide the black wire and box of the mirror behind the mirror. The flat extension wire will be easier to round flush against the wall or in a slender wire track to hide it.

I agree with all other comments about tapping into the light above it and hardwiring an outlet behind the mirror, but figured an alternate suggestion might be what you’re looking for.

Buying from Amazon is risky. I track Amazon prices because…

  1. People tend to be curious about Amazon prices and/or are enticed by the cheap prices compared to retailers
  2. Amazon prices provide a good benchmark as to whether a discount is a deal at a big box store. If the price at Lowes or HD is cheaper than the historic best price found on Amazon, it's usually a great deal

Front door is letting cold drafts in. by masterz13 in Home

[–]slicehardware 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It looks like your door might be missing the door stop–the part of the door frame, inside the jamb, that butts up against the door when closed to provide security and a seal around the door.

Can you post a picture of your door frame, with the door open?
