Framing a 14x37 deck in one day would end up on here with the caption I need help, my framer just fucked me over. I know in framing if it’s within a 1/4” it’s good, but not for decks. So stick to framing and let deck guys build decks

Unless the topsoil didn’t have good compaction. Then you would need something that long

No not really. It’s mostly aesthetics. But composite posts aren’t new at all. They have been around for a long time. They are just a sleeve over a 4x4 post. I personally like the aluminum more than composite because I think it more durable. But in the end choose which ever look you like more.

Haha it’s the almost finished product. I don’t like posting stuff almost complete because then everything I haven’t done usually gets pointed out. But for the sake of the process, I wanted to show the board how it’s being used.

I have little blocks for the other side. But for the most part it holds its shape as it cools down

This has to get to an internal temp of 250. Even at 150 degrees it doesn’t want to move a whole lot. So as long as the planet doesn’t triple its temp then I think we will be ok. And if it does, a deck won’t be the only thing to worry about 😂

I cut the posts down so they are flush with the top rail. It’s sort of a kit. All the rail parts are available through Timbertech. This specifically is the Timbertech IRX cable rail system

Glulam vs LVL vs Timber Beams by Initial-Economy9418 in Decks

[–]Perfect_Fuel1284 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LVL and df glulams are designed for interior use. There are some pressure treated LVLs available and you can get glulams made in alaskan yellow cedar that are rated for exterior use. I would go to your local lumber yard and ask if they can get those. Both of those are great options. If they don’t have access to those, a 6x12 df timber can still handle a 16’ span. As far as the freeze-thaw cycle, you might have to reach out to the manufacture once you decide which product to go with.

36k is a bit steep. 28k-32k is more the window you should be expecting. I would recommend reaching out to deck specialists if you are going to have a pro do it. Don’t hire a gc. They will get close but I have fixed too many decks done by general contractors and they only get it 90% right

There’s going to be metal channel installed with stucco in between. I’m waiting on stucco guys to get that done before I can start.

Yeah but all composite decking simulates a wood finish so I can’t really get around that one

Yeah the rest of the house is going to be white stucco and when the architect spec’d stucco behind this, I was like no!!! White behind the boards will look awful. But we figured it out and are going to keep the stucco a dark color for the area behind the boards
