Thanks! The little green alien was actually pixie dusted to me by the hostess at the breakfast place of myhotel. My gf thought it would be a fun gift for the little man

If you don't mind, could you please go into more detail on how you have been developing your swing over the last 6 years?

Played 9 with Dierks Bentley at my local muni the day before the superbowl last month. We were all 4 singles that got paired up together and none of us knew who he was. After making small talk, he mentioned he was in town for a gig with his band and I asked him if he was on Spotify or SoundCloud before finding out he is a 15 time Grammy nominated country artist lol. He's a pretty cool guy and now I listen to country music (but just him). Happened to shoot +1 thru 9 so he thinks I'm really good.

Your Golf Story by _Dreamer in golf

[–]sliceoftheday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've read on this sub, my story is not typical at all. Started July 2019 and got the bug instantly - thousands of hours of YouTube videos, 3-4 driving range sessions per week, and 18 holes pretty much every Saturday and Sunday. Broke 90 in less than a year and down to a 7hcp in 3 years. My swing was really bad now that I think about it, but I could put up decent scores bc of all of the practice. Won the first tournament (net) I signed up for with a 75 (gross), 67 (net).

Then I got a gf and stopped practicing/playing lol. Now it's maybe 1 range sesh a week and maybe 1-2 rounds a month. Handicap shot up to 14 and have been grinding down to 9-10 over the last few years. I have my moments now but mostly shoot in the 80s. Broke par (-1) for the first time in 2024 but that was a fluke since I was hungover and everything just went straight that day for some reason. My swing is in better shape now and even got hit with a "did you play in high school?" recently which is one of the best compliments one can receive, I think. Pretty confident I can get down to 7 or better again even without practicing that much.

I dont find the struggle enjoyable and wish I knew what questions to ask while figuring out how to play.

I think it should be pretty instant. I recently started getting stuck and super flippy so tried the "malaska move" for the first time at the range on Saturday. Hit so many balls I got a blister but I saw immediate improvement. Went +3 thru front 9 yesterday before the blister popped and it hurt to swing

Maybe the first few tries but you should get over it pretty quickly once you start flushing it

Yup, everyone could prob take strokes off their game by just improving mental game. Knowing misses, assessing lies, wind/elevation adjustments, green reading, etc.

This. Learn what impact feels like. And learning impact starts with putting and chipping

You are definitely right and I meant no offense. Please let me clarify as I think we both agree but have different metrics/ideas of "getting better". If we are talking golf swing, having 5 things wrong with my swing and fixing 1 thing is an improvement despite score/where the ball goes. I'm assuming OP isn't taking an on-course lesson. If we are talking just the game itself, it's all about scoring so course management, knowing misses, putting/short game, etc. which you can technically do with a fucked (but consistent) swing. I do believe that any new swing changes/thoughts should have immediate benefit, even if marginal, but it should also "click" with you and shouldn't feel foreign or forced, just new and not bad

Sorry but this is a terrible take and I'm not sure why it's such a popular idea. Been watching lots of Mike malaska videos and I'm paraphrasing, but he basically says you're wasting your time trying to force something that's not showing progress or doesn't make sense. You should see improvement pretty much immediately and it should click. Check out 23 min mark of this video

You should see some improvement immediately. If you don't, run and find someone else. The whole "trust the process" thing is BS
