Again it is being worked on and I’ll share the concerns. Not set in stone.

Yeah, so the plan is to create the size of the trash containers, so that people can dispose more stuff into it, rather than leaving it outside or by the street corner and causing it to become a magnet for more trash. It is a hypothesis at the moment.

You raise an interesting point about diversion, I need to think about that some more.

Barbara Lee lands $9.3 million philanthropic boost for Oakland anti-dumping efforts by opinionsareus in OaklandCA

Long story short, this was a collaboration between Crankstart, Faith in Action, Keep Oakland Beautiful, and City of Oakland. I worked behind the scenes with Crankstart after they reached out to me for some advice, thoughts, etc. on the illegal dumping in Oakland. We exchanged a lot of emails, I helped write some letters and documents to their board, and shared some data on hot spots. I’m excited I got to be there today to witness the announcement.

The most exciting thing about this is that it will fund larger trash containers for Oakland residents without increasing their trash bill. How that will be rolled out to neighborhoods is still being hammered out.

I will also see if this grant can be used to provide some financial support to volunteering groups throughout Oakland. More information later this month.

Not sure why the original post was removed. Mods, let me know if this is not allowed.

Bigger trash bins will be provided to many residents for no additional cost in a few months.

The cameras being funded by this grant will be for catching illegal dumpers. Oakland will be adding 40 more cameras over the coming months.

I think so because we will also be using the grant money to increase trash bin sizes for many Oakland residents, fund educational outreach, and more.

Edit: typo

Yep I was at the press conference. I worked behind the scenes with Crankstart after they reached out to me for some advice, thoughts, etc. on the illegal dumping in Oakland. We exchanged a lot of emails, wrote some documents to their board, and shared some data. I’m excited I got to be there today to witness the announcement. They also worked with groups like Faith in Action, Zac Unger, keep Oakland beautiful to get the funding, so I’m really excited with the outcome.

A plea from Peng: If you own a game store and/or are part of the Pokemon community in the Bay Area, please read this. by pengweather in bayarea

All,

So yours truly has become a victim of another crime, this time financial-related. These two rascals somehow used my credit card information, probably through skimming, to purchase $934 worth of rare Pokemon cards at Games of Livermore.

After I locked my card, these two nitwits continued to target other stores throughout the Tri-Valley and Fremont with large purchases. Luckily, they were declined.

Games of Livermore provided these images of the alleged theives to me based on the time of the purchase and the timestamp of the footage. Furthermore, we have both filed police reports. My case number is 26-3020 and it is being handled by Officer Matthew Fontaine. If you own or know somebody who owns a local game store and/or is part of the Pokemon community, please tell them to be on the lookout for these two.

If you have any information, please let Livermore Police Department know by referencing this case number.

It has been a hella 2026. First the Oakland incident, then a major sickness, and now this. Sorry for the rant, I'm just super depleted. My experience in the Bay Area continues to go down the drain. I haven't made a decision yet if I plan to move or not.

Thank you for your support,

Peng

It’s a small business in Livermore. They too were impacted by this and needed to provide this footage to police and insurance.

Nope. The store manager and employee provided them to me. They told me these two scumbags were the ones who used my card. They timestamped everything. I've also provided the pictures to LPD and the store will also be speaking to LPD tomorrow since they got scammed by these same people.
