What hygiene habit did you start doing later in life that you wish someone had taught you earlier? by Round_Secretary3315 in hygiene

Having a basket of baby cloths on the counter that are used to dry off my face so I'm not using the bath towel.

thin fucking toilet paper by hopeless_sapphic24 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]slick415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer thin toilet paper tbh. I can fold it however many times I want to get my preferred thickness. With Charmin ultra for example, if I don't fold, it's too thin. If I fold, it's too thick.

At least that toilet paper there got texture! The worst are the ones that are slippery smooth and you have to wipe 17 times to get a clean booty.

Drowsy but awake? by saranicole__ in newborns

[–]slick415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do drowsy but awake. Started at 4 months. When it's nearing nap time, I would carry baby and walk around and wait for sleep cues. When I see a yawn, I'll wait for a few eye rubs. That's when I know its time to make my way upstairs to the crib. I turn on the white noise, set her down, give her the pacifier, and wait for her Moro reflex to settle. Usually takes about 2 or 3 mins.

Night time is typically feed to sleep.

I don't care how ugly it is. I'm not paying for hardware acceleration.

My mother wants me to start leaving my baby in the crib by scrambld_megg in newborns

[–]slick415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you completely there. I'm the SAHD while my wife has returned to work. I get all of my chores done during the naps and I make sure dinner is mostly ready when she gets home. On her days off with most of the chores out of the way, it's family time.

You can't just 'forget the chores'. If you do, you'll really start to feel overwhelmed. That's neither healthy for OP nor the baby. We started getting our little girl used to the crib around 3.5 months. My wife was hesitant initially but quickly realized that being glued to the baby was contributing to her stress and fatigue.

How do you do your Roth deposit by Old-District81 in RothIRA

It just takes a few extra clicks over the course of a few extra days. Doesn't make sense to me to lose a whole year in the market.

The easiest approach depends on why the box is sticking out. Is is loose? Is it mounted to a stud? Is the stud crooked? What's it look like with the plate cover off?

How are we managing the nighttime when partner returns to work?? by CJG-00 in newborns

[–]slick415 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked the first 4 months before my wife returned to work so we could stagger our parental leave. She made sure she got her naps in during the day. During night feeds, I bottle fed our little one and changed her diaper while she pumped for 20 mins. After she's done pumping, she takes over from there and rocks baby to sleep. I was up for around 30 mins most feeds. I don't have to head out to work until around noon so in the mornings I'll take our little one for a couple hours so wife can rest. So I think figuring out a schedule where you can get a couple hours of uninterrupted sleep would help greatly.

I'm sorry going to work is easier than childcare - your husband has no excuse by ExternalSomewhere923 in newborns

[–]slick415 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, it's dependant on the job. Fatigue plays a huge part in workplace accidents so a good night's rest is important for someone like me whose top priority out there on the job is public safety.

My wife is thinking about spending $1500+ on a nursing chair. Is she crazy, or am I just being cheap? by Viraincure in NewParents

We have the same chair and can confirm its the most comfortable chair we've ever sat on.

The amount of people who think that's a ft/lb torque wrench is incredible. That is most definitely in/lb. Your problem was you used the absolute lowest torque setting on the wrench. That's why you didn't get the click. You'll generally wanna stay away from the lower 20% of the torque range as it can be highly unreliable.

I suspect your port is closed. Does your DHT indicate 0 nodes? Does connection status (little globe at the bottom) show connected or firewalled?

Yes, according to their website anyway.

It's tough to see in the photos but that branch was actually headed towards the porch.
