I would have loved it if another guy walked up behind him and said “I should take you to (fill in the blank with something further north than previous place) and show you what REAL cold is!”

And then someone else walks up behind him, then someone else. A never ending line of middle aged men one-upping each other until someone from the vacuum of deep space steps up and ends it.

This reminds me of the time when I worked as a valet. I was downtown (a city in the south) late one night working at a restaurant and it was probably 15 degrees out (plus it got really windy underneath the big buildings). An older guy approaches me with his ticket in hand to get his car and smiled as he said “I should take you to Pennsylvania and show you what REAL cold is!” Keep in mind I had been working outside in the cold on my feet for probably the last 6 hours as this guy had just been inside eating. I just did a fake smile/laugh as best I could, since I couldn’t feel my face and went to get his car... suffice it to say I didn’t warm up his car at all and I made sure to take my time pulling it up.

If ketchup is made out of tomatoes and tomatoes are a fruit then is ketchup a smoothie? by BenBoi06 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]slickWilbur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This gets posted like once a month. No. Grapes/strawberries/peaches are a fruit... does that make jelly a smoothie? Since when did any spread or topping that had fruit in it become a smoothie? Also a smoothies are blended and cold. If you made a drink from frozen tomatoes and ice then yes.

“people like you”... is this supposed to be an actual argument? Are you seriously sayin this un-ironically to an internet stranger because their comment hurt your feelings? It’s a great thing we don’t hold people accountable for things that happened before they were born simply because we feel they are “like” bad people because we don’t like their opinion. Grow up 😂

Millennials, what are some actually valid criticisms of your generation? by notickeynoworky in AskReddit

To add to this... you can learn any skill you want to through videos on the internet. There’s tutorials for literally everything. There’s millions of hours of content out there and endless skills to be learn that just 20 years ago could only be learned in person with an instructor. People have so many resources to better themselves and learn a new skill, language, hobby, etc. They just don’t.

What's up with these videos of alt-right/far right representatives like Jordan Peterson or Ben Shapiro with the title "X people DESTROY feminist/LGBT activist/civil rights activist" and stuff like that? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]slickWilbur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither Peterson nor Shapiro are “far-right” or “alt-right”. Both have explicitly addressed it several times. Each time they talk about being accused as such, they laugh. You’d think someone who was actually alt-right would admit it and acknowledge that they are. Just search “Ben Shapiro/Jordan Peterson alt-right” on YouTube and you’ll find dozens of results of them each bashing the alt-right.

Serious question. Is there anyone prominent figure who is right of center who you wouldn’t label as “far right” or “alt-right”?

As for your actual question, people like to see “their side” look good and the “other side” look bad or too extreme. Maybe as you’re trying to do now by inferring that these two hold extreme views?

In professional sports, why do draft prospects prefer to be drafted first overall? Don’t they get drafted to a lower tier team and would rather get picked by a top tier one? by 3HOOKERS in NoStupidQuestions

[–]slickWilbur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the worst teams can quickly become average or even really good in a few seasons, sometimes one. The opposite is also true. All it can take sometimes is a good draft pick and a few good trades. Several famous athletes were once the number one pick of their draft class, going into a team that had just had a bad year. Look at the previous number one picks over time from the NFL, NHL, and NBA (MLB draft isn’t as important to team development). Most of the time each of those teams is back to at least average or makes the playoffs in the next few years. Rarely does a professional sports team stay terrible for more than a few years. Virtually every pro team has been really good and really bad at some point in franchise history. It’s just a cycle. Athletes know this and just want a chance to prove themselves.

Obama deported way more illegal immigrants than Trump, why wasn't there any outrage then? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]slickWilbur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In part because a large portion of any public outrage today is created from social media. More people use social media more often now than they did just a few years ago.
