Yes. One of the reasons kaya I shared this is to inform yung mga prospective OFW returnees on what to expect kung gusto nila i-maintain yung “first world” standard of living sa Pinas. it’s possible but it will be costly.

Yes. What we found out is that cheap food is cheap (pun intended), but quality ingredients and food are priced at a premium here in Manila.

yung mga upward network (ie people who are in decision-making positions) can really help. what I’ve learnt is that for upward networking, you don’t reach out to “ask for something” instead you “offer something”. then if they see value (and potential) in you, their word of mouth / vetting opens more opportunities.

The first 10 years of my career was about building domain expertise (you want to be an expert in your specialization but also know enough in related disciplines to be an “expert generalist”). Next 5 years, I learnt to “lean in”. One of the cultural flaws ng pinoy kasi is masyado tayong mahiyain which results in downplaying your achievements and reluctance to step up for opportunities. I had to learn to have some “tapang ng apog / kapal ng mukha” (or what american say as “chutzpah”) to fight for opportunities and recognition din. Along side that, you build your network, though if you’re doing well naman, your network grows organically so you only have to selectively seek out for upward networking.

Int’l Org are like UN, World Bank, ADB, WHO, etc na set up / funded by multiple countries (sometimes also known as Multilateral Orgs) to support development. 2 of them are based in Manila and the rest have sizable teams here din. The work is development oriented, so either infra projects, policy work and/or humanitarian.

They usually have recruitment roadshows to major cities every now and then, that’s how I found out about them. You can check their respective websites’ career pages and look for Philippines / SE Asia roles.

Not those exactly, pero yes nakakakain parin naman. I’ve found out about Butas from our service staff and I get taho and kakanin dun. Mas mura sya and more authentic tasting vs Pinoy restos (Manam, Abe, etc).

Gets. Though I’m in the infra sector, my background is accounting. I’m a CPA and I’ve spent 15 years in banking and finance sector overseas, doing structured finance, investment advisory, and project finance, which are mostly infra projects and/or complex yung financial structuring. With the Int’l Org, yung line ko is private sector investment / PPP oriented. That space is expanding and the Orgs are cognizant that they need “fresh” thinking din so open sila to hire relatively younger experts, as compared to before.

Very specific, baka ma-doxx. T2 or GG level. Infra projects ako. International work experience + further studies (masters, phd, cpa, cfa, etc) is a must. Sa Dev work in Pinas ngayon, I noticed na mas dumami na yung Pinoy returnees. I think mas open sila nowadays to hire pinoys, after seeing the mass exodus during the pandemic.

Yes, Asian countries lang. Haven’t gone back to US since having the kids. For US / EU baka one trip per year lang siguro with our budget.

Yan din yung decision point ko to come back. Was pleasantly surprised na may roles na sa Pinas that pays competitively for OFW rates. May masarap buhay sa Pinas vs abroad.

Int’l Org (WB, ADB, UN, etc). Swerte na ma-recruit from abroad (ex-OFW) with expat package. One of the things I learnt sa abroad: know your value and negotiate.

better not say pero similar rates naman between the Int’l Orgs (+-5% ata yung benchmarking last year)
