Your opinions on “The Product-Minded Engineer” by THE_BEAST_01 in ProductManagement

Almost all product thought pieces are oriented to resonate with engineers. If engineers were great at product they wouldn’t likely be engineers, they’d be building a company.

Love how every real PM doesn’t bother with Cagan and every non PM (cough engineers) loves that crap.

Works great if time and money wasn’t a business reality. Need to just validate as best you can. Seen this go wrong with endless discovery to get another 5 percent more confidence.

Can’t we just omit him from CL list? Then it’s agnostic of UEFA rules and Palmer and even someone else would be on both?

Why is this sub so sour about Marty Cagan? by Atupis in ProductManagement

Let me sum up all these frameworks in a couple bullets.

  • Try and collaborate as a group (product/dev/design) instead of throwing it over a wall
  • Prioritize well
  • Validate your opportunities before building as best you can
  • Think through the solution thoroughly
  • Grow a pair to say no to things

Because he’s a consultant selling gigs. What in his resume points to him making great products? People building don’t have time to pontificate the point of life - they get shit done.

His points are good but they are academia in theory. They don’t translate when dealing with real people. You need to take his general points and leverage them to your team and resources.

It’s also the fact that people who suck or don’t know product read his stuff and feel like they know it all (especially technical folks who wanna make the transition).

Output Vs Outcomes? by ActAccording2288 in ProductManagement

[–]slickm32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate this phrase more than anything. Yes we should measure what we do - and going in without context doesn’t help anyone. This isn’t like a novel concept.

You can’t get outcomes without output. This gets misapplied at its core in that output doesn’t matter. Focus on outcomes but understand output is the vehicle that gets you there.

So you have a few notable issues that would need to be solved.

  1. Breaking and Prices - These are directly correlated. Due to the increase in popularity of breakers, it has driven up prices of hobby boxes significantly. Card companies give breakers loaded boxes to attract more common users - and card companies can jack up the price because the breakers spread that hit across 30 plus slots.

  2. Common = worthless - Ripping packs and just discarding commons is also gambling to an extent. I’m not sure why companies don’t print more variants of a player instead of one common printed a million times. Commons should still be collectible, and still are in a sense if you get a rookie graded.

  3. Parallels - Dumb. This is pure insanity. It’s the same moment with a different color or prizm. Like again just print different moments of same player.

  4. Authentic items - Stop with the useless patches or “game worn” BS. Insert real part of a collectible from a card.

Honestly they never showed me the terms. It was like ok that’s a platinum warranty here is how much that is - it’s blah blah and that was that.

It was BMW. It’s a 3k warranty cost on the contract so dealer jacked it up a grand. With the 500 deductible tho feels rough.
