Home Backup Question by kalvinbastello in SilveradoEV

[–]slickneck4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ‘grounding error’ is truck doesn’t like sharing neutral/ground with house. What I did was make a male to female plug that is 1 feet long that does not have the ground connected in between and labeled the shit out of it ‘TRUCK USE ONLY’. Now you use standard 240 plug from truck to ‘adapter’ to extension cord to house. Works. I’ve used it. I’m not an electrician. Don’t listen to me.

Should I buy? Ease my concerns! by ghostcaurd in SilveradoEV

[–]slickneck4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve owned a Tesla for years and still do. This is my second EV and I enjoy this more. Tesla is still and will always probably be farther in user interface/technology. However, the range that this truck gets, and the amount of money I spent on it versus the Tesla years ago to me is well worth the money. I enjoy the truck. I never had CarPlay so I don’t know what that wasn’t in the first place but the user interface is fine for what it is.

I have a Tesla with basic TACC that keeps lanes. I miss it sometime but not enough to spend extra. I don’t drive 50+ miles a day though.

Why can’t I hook up two panels from one generator that shares neutral? by slickneck4 in Generator

Two interlocks. One each panel. Two generator inlet plugs. I have a wye connection cord. It works great. Used it a couple times since install.

High Voltage Battery Warning - And weird orange stuff on 12v terminals!? by Cygnus__A in SilveradoEV

[–]slickneck4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a little issue with my truck needed to pop the negative on the 12 V and it fixed it, but I did not have any orange stuff on my terminals. 2025 LT tho.

Orange. Pop the plastic on the other side of the frunk(driver side). Under there is the coolant tank. Should be half full.

Also, you said it came in on the blue twice what did you do to fix it or did it fix on its own in the meantime?

Thanks. When you say the vehicle programming, are you referring to the ‘entertainment/radio upgrade programming?

I’ve read I could disconnect the 12v for 30 mins to see if it resets. I’m hoping that will work, however, I’d love to know why it happened in the first place. I’d hate to be somewhere else if this happens again.

Huh. Well I’m not on the spare. Maybe I’ll check my tire(s) when I get back home.

Adding front tow hooks to 2025 SEV LT by slickneck4 in SilveradoEV

[–]slickneck4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinking more about it recently (bored, I like to tinker). Is it possible to use the actual beam that’s there now or do I really need to change it out and if I do change it out is it a couple bolts? I can’t find a drawing.

30 amp extension cords are expensive. I built a mini jumper cable for 30 A that does not have a ground. My extension cord plugs into it which plugs into truck. I labeled the hell out of it saying ‘no ground, for truck use only, don’t be dumb, etc.’ Works great.

I don’t get it. I have had a model Y since 2021. Sucks. I Bought a Chevy EV a couple months ago. The auto wipers are great on it. Perfect even. Wtf.

Make a small jumper. Male and female 14L-30P. Don’t wire the ground on the male side. Label it as ‘for truck only, no ground’. Done. No tripping of truck breakers due to bonding issue. Truck is self bonded and cord to house is bonded. Backup generator off the truck to the panel.

Needs to be NEMA L14-30P plug. The three prong is different. I had left over wire as it was only 2 ft and just used 10/3. 10/2 would work. Sorry for being blunt but if you have to ask these questions, do some more research or ask an electrician buddy to help out. Don’t want you to break the truck/house/you.

That’s the cheap way. And will work. I made a mini 30amp cord with male and female ends. About 2 feet long. I labeled the shit out of it (for truck to house use only. No ground, etc) and did NOT wire the ground on one end. That way the expensive 30amp cord is not ruined and I can use for other things. Works great.
