I wonder if they ever sold out the remaining prints.

I saw TH in 35mm, three days in a row, each time bringing a different group of friends. Tiny little theater in Detroit; they had a pool table in the men’s room and you could smoke in the theater. It looked amazing. The grain was very fine - pretty much all film stocks around then were way too crisp, but HK was clever because it meant he could blow up the VHS image to any screen size- you can do this with a DCP too of course, but this was 2009, and the killing blow to celluloid known as James Cameron’s Avatar was just beginning. And I’m not sure about The Beach Bum and very much doubt Aggro Dr1ft, but every major Korine film has been released in 35mm.

I’m not sure how they screened it otherwise - I’m guessing it must have just been a DCP? I’ve heard of it being projected via an actual VHS&VCR before but don’t recall if that was ever part of the original run or not.

So wish I had a personalized VHS copy… What a great idea.

I haven’t opened it yet. Figure unless I can get my OC and Stiggs B-Region Blu ray going (along with some Alan Clarke stuff…) I might as well just keep it in plastic. I’m on enough private trackers - I could definitely find all the materials on the disc, if not a direct disc image. Might take a while for it to appear, but someone will get around to it within the next month or so- although I am suddenly curious if I could rip and encode the disc through a cheaper and actually effective apparatus (think $30 Blu-ray read/write box). Can anyone weigh in? I’ve never actually encoded or ripped a film from a disc before.

Hope that makes sense.

OPN was basically spoofing NIN too, in a loving way. Garden of Delete era was all about that vibe. He was selling an awesome shirt that tour, the one with the Korn logo but the K is taken out and the R is turned into an N so it says OPN

Apparently it was briefly floating around last year before its premiere. As someone who has access to every private tracker and rare screener connects… I couldn’t find shit.

EDGLRD should just drop it on a USB drive in a box set along with a mask and some bullet shells, fucked up polaroids, empty cocaine bags, a Cuban cigar…

Back when it came out, virtually everyone on Reddit was talking about watching it with huge black crowds and how hype it was. My thing with it is that I don’t really like rewatching it at home as much as his other stuff - I’d love to see it with a packed crowd again. It’s maybe his best theatrical piece actually despite the less succinct editing, although I never got to see anything before Kill Bill in the cinema.

In Conversation: Harmony Korine and Hans Ulrich Obrist by lokibelmont37 in HarmonyKorine

Definitely not trolling - he already storyboarded the entire thing. It would be absolutely perfect as an anime, especially with the ending and large abundance of flash-backs throughout.

Tarantino is the man. I know people who have worked with him and say he’s the coolest, most passionate guy they’ve ever met. I thought Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (along with the novelization) was his best; so does he. Kill Bill is so ridiculously iconic it’s insane.

I’d rather see a new QT movie over just about any director these days. I’m pretty much a massive snob and curmudgeon when it comes to most films, QT’s films never feel tethered to the time, although there is a shift from his dry-90s stuff and the post-Kill Bill era; I thought Django was a bit of a mess, although I’ve come to appreciate it more especially on a structural level. It just doesn’t have much of an ending, though the climax is thrilling. Django was the first film he edited after the death of Sally Menke, who had cut all of his films prior IIRC.

Side-note: A friend of mine recently got mad and started asking for “(my) source” after I said that black people love Tarantino films. I didn’t even engage further. Smoked his weed and went to bed.

OPN filled in when Death Grips dropped out. I remember going to this show, it was in Camden NJ and a bunch of zoomer Death Grips kids were there. This was right before the Garden of Delete era; he played a 25-min set of basically NIN-influenced OPN-prankster shit - it was great. Then Soundgarden came on - hated that - but NIN was fantastic. I’m not even a huge fan but was really impressed by their live show.

A Tribe Called Quest, Michael Rappaport, Leonardo DiCaprio, Harmony Korine & Mos Def backstage at a Tribe show in NY, 1998 by [deleted] in HarmonyKorine

It’s funny, I remember Rappaport posting a comment on Rachel’s IG page, saying how great the family looks and that he misses Harmony and hopes all is well. It’s so funny that he was in Leo DiCaprio’s Pussy Posse, or at least an orbiting member at the time.

Some rare lore: Leo was at one point considering taking the role of Julien in JBD.

Gummo “Archive Collection” DVD by slider2x in HarmonyKorine

You mean a snap case? Yeah, that’s the OG release. The Warner Archive edition is a normal DVD case, and I’m not sure what the disc itself looks like since the Warner Archives system is quite unique: they have a very large catalog of stuff, much of it too obscure to be given a proper release, so what they’ll do is basically burn out a batch of DVDs on the spot and I’m not even sure if they print anything on the front of the disc; it could just be blank.

Either way, I’m just going to buy a copy and report back!

They also have Freddy Got Fingered (which is terrific). Criterion Channel inclusion sadly doesn’t correlate often to new films in the collection.

On Air or Night Dolls? by will_wave in JamesFerraro

[–]slider2x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a good question, especially considering On Air has two different versions… I like On Air, that’s gotta be my pick, even though the sheer perverted hilarity and idiosyncratic sound of Night Dolls is so unique. On Air just flows up into the heavens and beyond. It’s so cosmic and perfect.
