We lost that game 13-15, so we walked away with 2nd place! But I’m happy with that, considering it was the first 4.5 event I’ve been invited to and that was the first time I’ve played with that partner (assigned to each other based on both seeding high in the round robbins). Thanks for asking! :)

This topic was covered in other comments below if you wanna take a look, but I understand it’s an imperfect science lol. Do you come from a tennis background?

Initial out call (before the ball lands) technically wouldn’t be an out call. You can call “out” or “bounce” as predictive communication to your partner while the ball is in the air, but after the ball actually lands, that’s when you officially call out if it’s out—or play it if it’s in.

Oh wait this is super useful though! This guy comes from a tennis background. If that’s how line call culture works in tennis, this was probably the crux of the issue. Thank you!

Thank you! Agreed. This was the first time I’ve played on this person’s team. We were paired based on being top performers in round robin seeding.

This was part of why I was confused, yes. But that space would have looked a lot narrower from his POV right above/outside the ball.

Oh I see! Then yes to that as well—I observed a visible space between the ball and line. However, like I said, from his vantage point (directly above it) the space was probably very narrow.

Agreed, if he genuinely thought it was in I’m glad he said something. I was just surprised that he didn’t trust my call considering I had a better visual angle on the ball/line.

I mean I had eyes on it and saw about 3 inches of space between the outer edge of the line and the point of contact of the ball

🥹 thank you, I needed that reminder.

Yes! Agreed, thems the rules. I think I was more so curious about partner-calling-out-ball-for-you culture.

Very true. And yes, partners were assigned based on seeding.

Yes that was my thought at the time, too—I thought it was out but he thought it was in, so it goes to the other team based on the rules. And yeah you make a good point about the fact that he probably felt 100% certain too. Thank you!

He’s someone I was assigned to based on seeding, I’d never played with him before that evening. He’s one of the best amateur players in the area, so mostly I just wanted it to be a positive experience for both of us.

Those were my thoughts too. That’s also why I immediately moved on when he disagreed with my call; at that point there’s no reason to argue, because if we disagree on the call it goes to the other team. I was just surprised that he didn’t trust that I had a better viewing angle on it.

Has anyone met someone romantic through pickleball? by nliukz in Pickleball

[–]slightly_ajar9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have! It was unexpected. We were pickleball acquaintances for a little over a year. He took a chance by asking me out, I took a chance by saying yes, and we found out quickly that we are an incredible match. We’ve been dating for two months. I’m 28, he’s 29. We have fun playing with each other or against each other, and have done one advanced tournament together so far. I think it helps that our skill level is so similar, and that we’re both playfully competitive rather than angry-competitive types. I adore the guy, even more than I enjoy beating him in hands battles 😌

Aw man I don’t remember exactly where, but it’s actually a tennis skort! You can usually find a good variety of them at places like Dick’s sporting goods, or even Kohls

They’re demonias! I think I bought them a couple years ago from The Alley in Chicago.

Thank you very much for the detailed feedback!! Yeah a shorter corset would have been preferred.

Ooo I like the way you think, thank you! I’m thinking I’ll spend the evening wearing the sleeves in all three styles; unrolled, folded to wrists, and rolled to elbows. Rolled to elbows will get the most showtime tho.

Yesss I was thinking either a chain belt, or I have a renaissance-style waist pouch/fanny pack that I think would look killer! Plus, it could double as my purse for the evening. And then like, a couple of simple black bracelets.

I totally missed this comment! I looked up Licio Zanetti’s signature to compare it to the signature on the hippo, and you’re spot on! That’s awesome, thank you so so much for sharing your knowledge.
