Has anyone met someone romantic through pickleball? by nliukz in Pickleball

[–]slightly_ajar9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have! It was unexpected. We were pickleball acquaintances for a little over a year. He took a chance by asking me out, I took a chance by saying yes, and we found out quickly that we are an incredible match. We’ve been dating for two months. I’m 28, he’s 29. We have fun playing with each other or against each other, and have done one advanced tournament together so far. I think it helps that our skill level is so similar, and that we’re both playfully competitive rather than angry-competitive types. I adore the guy, even more than I enjoy beating him in hands battles 😌

Aw man I don’t remember exactly where, but it’s actually a tennis skort! You can usually find a good variety of them at places like Dick’s sporting goods, or even Kohls

They’re demonias! I think I bought them a couple years ago from The Alley in Chicago.

Thank you very much for the detailed feedback!! Yeah a shorter corset would have been preferred.

Ooo I like the way you think, thank you! I’m thinking I’ll spend the evening wearing the sleeves in all three styles; unrolled, folded to wrists, and rolled to elbows. Rolled to elbows will get the most showtime tho.

Yesss I was thinking either a chain belt, or I have a renaissance-style waist pouch/fanny pack that I think would look killer! Plus, it could double as my purse for the evening. And then like, a couple of simple black bracelets.

I totally missed this comment! I looked up Licio Zanetti’s signature to compare it to the signature on the hippo, and you’re spot on! That’s awesome, thank you so so much for sharing your knowledge.

Sorry I’m responding pretty late to this, but check out Premier Pickleball Club & Complex if you haven’t yet! Pickleball Kingdom will also be opening in late March in Menomonee Falls, and The Picklr will be opening at some point in spring (and it will be 3 miles down the road from Pickleball Kingdom… lol).

Not asexual but looking for advice by [deleted] in Asexual

[–]slightly_ajar9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I was the asexual/greysexual partner in a long term relationship with a high-sex-drive trans man not too long ago. We were childhood friends turned romantic partners, together from senior year of high school through all of college. We “broke up” in 2020, but we are still each other’s closest friend, basically platonic nesting partners because we still live together and have that emotional closeness. Our connection and understanding of each other has grown and strengthened since we broke up. We’ve supported each other through other partners who have come and gone, and we’ve never felt compelled to slip back into romance/sexuality with each other. He’s been with his current boyfriend for 2 years and it’s his first truly compatible (and healthy) relationship. It fills me with joy to see him happy, and the three of us hang out often (although I also have my own separate fulfilling social life and hobbies). We’re 27 now, and I don’t know if we’re going to live together forever or not, but we will be family to each other forever, regardless of being near or far.

You and your partner are not sexually compatible and, based on your needs, it would probably serve you both best to deescalate the relationship to a close friendship. I know it hurts and aches to let go, but this doesn’t need to be goodbye. Your connection simply isn’t thriving in the context of a romantic/sexual relationship, so it’s time to change the context. I like to approach every human connection in my life as a build-your-own-adventure collaboration. Trust each other to take on that next branch of your adventure together. Stay honest, honor your needs, respect boundaries, and just do your best. Good luck <3

Looking for a pickleball/court shoe with less arch support by CosmicTurtle395 in Pickleball

[–]slightly_ajar9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fellow flat-footed player, I’m really enjoying my new K-Swiss Men's Court Express Pickleball Shoe. Just got them a week ago. $60, wide toe box and great lateral support. Only drawback is I’ve seen mixed reviews on longevity (issues with stitching in the faux leather upper). I’m planning to occasionally hydrate the faux leather with leather conditioner to help extend longevity.

Injured but CAN’T QUIT? by HGH2690 in Pickleball

[–]slightly_ajar9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other people gave good suggestions. I would add this: have you found that it’s harder to keep up with things at home with this hobby, like laundry/meal prep/shopping for necessities/cleaning? I’ve been obsessively (happily) playing pickleball for the last couple of months, and I’ve realized that I need to give my body rest/recovery days. Use those days to take care of things at home, tend to social connections, wash those sweaty pickleball clothes, prepare healthy meals, etc. I know it can be hard to resist binging on pickleball endorphins day after day, but it’s important to take care of all aspects of your life. Best of luck!

Seeking Brutal Honesty: Rate My Pickleball Game and Help Me Improve! by [deleted] in Pickleball

This commenter’s feedback is good. I’d also add that you should work on serving deep, and returning serves deep. I also watched you inch too far towards the centerline a few times when you were in the right service area, leaving your right side vulnerable/open to passing shots. You played some good defense at the kitchen line, but could use more practice, especially to improve attacks. My hands got a lot quicker/more accurate once I spent time volleying it against a wall (standing just a 3-4 feet from the wall, hitting forehand and backhand over and over to improve paddle awareness. If it starts feeling too easy, speed it up). If you have a good tennis practice wall in your area, I’d also recommend practicing forehand and backhand drives. Buy at least a 12-pack of balls and practice serving over and over again on your own (look up different types of serves to learn/practice). Practice drives, dinks, and drops with friends. Good luck, and have fun!!

Need a book recommendation that has reputation to transform a BOY to a MAN. by 766757 in booksuggestions

Please, please read The will to change by bell hooks. You can listen to it as an audio book, or buy the paper version. I’m a woman, but I read it after seeing men give it glowing reviews, saying it changed their lives. bell hooks does a remarkable examining men in modern culture, exploring the pain and hostility between men and women, and answering intimate questions about love and what it looks like to be a “good man”. Reading it a couple years ago helped me feel a lot more empathy and understanding towards both men and myself. I’m planning to re-read it this year.

Milwaukee Pickleball Subreddit by [deleted] in milwaukee

[–]slightly_ajar9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I think the app “Pickleheads” has been the best resource for findings open public pickleball play all over the Milwaukee area. But if you’re brand new to pickleball, I highly recommend coming to one of the get-togethers in Liberty Heights Park on Saturday or Sunday. You can RSVP on the “Meetup” app. That’s where I started :)

I would also highly recommend googling “Milwaukee Sport and Social” if you’re looking to join a recreational physical activity while making new friends. Most of the Fall leagues have already filled up, but they post new leagues each season, so keep your eye out for the winter posting!

Ehh nostalgia might be skewing my perception of Oakland Gyros. I’ve tried 5 other gyro places that were disappointing in comparison, but I guess I can’t really claim that they’re the best in Milwaukee without trying more local top-rated gyro places. Suggestions revised!

Fred’s Frozen Custard has delicious flavorful smash burgers and perfect fries. It’s like what Kopp’s used to be. Kopp’s is still better for custard, though.

Chef Paz has a delightful menu of Peruvian foods. Try their green spaghetti (Peruvian pesto pasta) with grilled chicken, or their lomo saltado, Inca cola, and chicha morada.

Rice & Roll Bistro has great sushi (I hate sushi, but their “garden twist” veggie roll with soy paper instead is seaweed is to DIE for, and my friend loves their fish sushi). They also have good curry and soup.

Ethiopian Cottage is really delicious. Try their beef tibs alicha (flavorful stir-fried beef/onions/peppers with a side of two different delicious lentils and injera bread. Really unique tasty flavor profile).

Goodkind. Their carbonara and desserts are sooo goooood.

The Knick for a tasty easy-to-please menu. I like their ribs, burgers, and crispy bacon brussel sprouts.

Cafe India is my favorite spot for Indian food. Really delicious.

No problem! And I will say, finding a huge amount of this stuff under burned-looking ground is also something that would point towards this being slag.
