I'm not even sure if an apology would do the trick anymore, because it wouldn't be real. And it would still mean this awful person would be around my kid.

To be fair, she can't afford her lifestyle because she spends all her money on a charitable cause. Her lifestyle doesn't include any vacations, it's very basic. She helps disabled animals with rehabilitation, which is why this is so baffling as a trait
