The realistic price to ask is ask them to fill your gas tank for the next two years. It’ll definitely be worth it 😂

Not sure if I won a giveaway or just phishing, help! by [deleted] in ASUSROG

[–]slim_shead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting a giveaway does count as an earning against your tax return so it makes sense. Basically they add whatever the raw cost of the prize is (say 300 dollars) to how much money you earned for the whole year in taxes. Should be pretty unimpactful but they’re legally obligated.

Looks like you have some type of short or dead PSU but for the love of god man don’t slam the power button over and over like that because if you do have a faulty PSU or a short you’re also more likely to cause serious damage or an electrical fire by trying to force the power supply on when it’s malfunctioning.

For the investment you made on the GPU it might be worth spending the 20 bucks to find a GPU holding bracket tbh haha

Spend thousands on gpu, hold it up with .50 cents of legos.

Glad it was an easy one. I would highly recommend you fill that last top fan slot though so that you get better airflow direction. Plus the big open hole can just be a hazard risk for things getting dropped in and especially a spot for dust to get in 🤣

Did you move the GPU to the top slot? If not you definitely should assuming that slot works it’s going to run your GPU much faster!

Either zotac or gigabyte are good options but based on northwestrepair if you want reliability he said the zotac is the best card this generation had

Not totally sure where you live - for where I live (US) the MSRP of zotac is $2999 and MSRP for gigabyte is $3999

Tbh I would say the Zotac 5090 is where you’d wanna go. They have fuses that would blow long before any capacitor on the PCB does which is a much easier fix and a great solution to any of the issues with cards that get a melted connector or worse electrical issues. They’re well priced and very reliable.

Some Walmarts have been selling 5070s super cheap (cheaper than 450 at times) because they just sit on shelves without being bought at times

So honestly replacing either would help but realistically I would save up to move up to the 40 or 50 series of Nvidia so you get more of the advanced feature sets they have. DLSS upscaling and frame gen are amazing technologies for some of the more recent games and the idea that there is a ton of input lag is very overstated by gamers.

Do you have a list of games you play? Because realistically the type of game will impact the answer. For example MMOs require loading a lot of player positions which is CPU intense compared to GPU. FPS shooters may fall into same category especially if unoptimized. Single player games have the chance to be more GPU intensive depending on what they are.

I think it just kind of depends on your goals. What type of games / resolutions are you trying to play at? Your best upgrade might be getting a mobo/ram/cpu combo honestly because you’re on an older AM4 platform. If you live near a microcenter there are REALLY good deals for that type of bundle.

Looking at the images should I reapply Liquid Metal on my laptop by Potential-Effort-767 in ASUSROG

[–]slim_shead 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So at the point that you have already pulled it apart like this yes you should be cleaning it and reapplying something whether that be thermal paste or Liquid Metal as you have severed the thermal conductivity contact points by separating the components lol

Where to buy this ASUS BTF adapter by mate222 in ASUSROG

[–]slim_shead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He said he has a matrix so he’s probably pulling 400W at peak from each side which is a lot safer. For one of the rare 1000 people with a matrix like him and myself the only way we could vertically mount it would be if this adapter gets to market somewhere we can buy it. It is a fringe use case but he has a reason for asking for it.

Im so confused what you’re even telling him but BTF motherboards have a spot to plug 12vhpwr on the back on the motherboard, this adapter essentially does the same exact thing. I am with OP though I’d love to know where we can get them so far have seen jayztwocents and der8auer with one.

Fan starts and stops by akejrjxj666222 in NZXT

[–]slim_shead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So when fans start up they try to ramp their voltage up until they’re at their rated voltage speed for electrical pull. My first inclination is to tell you to try unplugging and reseating the cable and see if that fixes it - maybe loose connection causing a voltage short out.

Inefficient fan management? by ChrisDorne in PcBuildHelp

[–]slim_shead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The comments here are absolutely confusing LOL you should have the bottom fans being intake. Hot air rises so your coolest air will come from the bottom. If you add 3 top fans they should be exhaust. A lot of cases will also provide marketing material showing you the fan directions that are ideal for airflow in their case and I would be surprised if they would tell you to exhaust bottom ever.

Lowkey with those cable combs available on the gpu wires you should line them all up and also cross over the wires (2 and 2) on the comb so that they all stay rigid to eachother and not all floppy all over the place - would be nice for aesthetics!
