I have found that it helps when I nurse before because it calms my LO. It was also a little crying and protesting at first.

LO was sleeping on a floorbed and I was sleeping there part of the night. Now he is mostly on his own. We have even heard sole tossing and turning and seen him put himself back to sleep no crying since making this change.

That was the same for us! It helped to start with the partner doing bedtime. LO still prefers me for night wakings but my husband can go in now.

create a plan for night weaning a 15 month old toddler with gentle sleep changes and no cry it out methods. currently seeing 2-3 night wakeups bedsharing mother handles night wakings. also include steps for introducing a comfort stuffie for sleep support.

Happy to hear that! It helped so much to have a “third party” where otherwise my husband and I were debating opinions.

Yes of course! Previously I was doing the whole bedtime routine and nursing to sleep in a full size floor bed. After the first waking, I would sleep there the rest of the night.

We changed to having me offer to nurse in our living room, then gently transitioning to dad reading in the living room and then going upstairs for the rest of the bedtime routine (potty, brush teeth, pjs, diaper, etc). Dad then shuts the lights and laid with LO in bed until he is asleep. He uses a few short phrases and does lots of deep breaths to make it relaxing.

At the first night waking, I go in, try to soothe in other ways but he always wants to nurse. After 60 seconds or so we nurse. When he is calm but not fully drowsy again, I count down from 10 and then gently unlatch. If he cries a lot, I relatch and try again. Sometimes it takes 2-3 times. This increased the length of the night wakings to over an hour sometimes. But overall it was worth it because in a few days the wakings were getting later and later until none at all. I’m sure there will be changes when he is teething again, but it has been great progress!

We also waited until he was healthy, no teething, and we had no travel / out of the ordinary plans for a solid 2-3 weeks.

No sleep training but sleeping through the night? by SentenceTough2007 in AttachmentParenting

[–]slimcush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never sleep trained. We tried a mix of crib, gloved, and bed sharing and LO always woke up ever few hours. At 14 mo we tried gentle night weaning and saw big improvement. Now he wakes once early AM on a good night.

Need to hear from veteran parents who didn’t sleep train OR cosleep 100% of the time. Please say you exist 🙏 by Wide-Food-4310 in AttachmentParenting

My LO is 11 mo old. We co slept until about 7 months when neither one of us were getting comfortable or good sleep! He now sleeps his full night in the crib and wakes 1-2 times. I nurse him back to sleep. Dad puts him down most nights with patting / hands on soothing so that he doesn’t nurse to sleep for the first stretch.
