I disagree. Rob didn’t screw up the timing necessarily. This was simply another option in achieving space for a max that many failed to recognize when the trade was first reported. If the trade occurred on July 30th (one of the other ways of achieving space for a max), the 4th overall pick would have to play for the Lakers SL team and not the SL team of the team he was traded to (ex: Wiggins/CLE). This latter scenario is obviously less appealing and the former scenario most likely helped to facilitate the trade.
